Yes, the black panther, which appeared in Fantastic Four #52 (I have an original and remember reading it when it came out in 1965 or so), fights for his African kingdom and is true to his people. "A hero is only a true hero if he is fighting for your cause". Black panther fights for his people and is cultural, that is why consciously or unconsciously he is so respected and revered by the black reading community. In regard to the Dora Milaje (the body guards), they're his wives in waiting for lack of better wording. Their job is to protect T'Challa (even though he doesn't need it) and to eventually possibly marry him. They were betrothed to him if I'm not mistaken as a way to keep peace or make peace with Wakanda. T'challa is unconventional there was never any chance he'd marry one of them & they know it. They are capable fighters and usually handle his light weight so to speak

They use spears in close quarters combat, like during the Secret Invasion, the Skrulls and Wakanda both cancel out their tech. So, the had to fight with traditional weapons. Though, there are other technological weapons they possess, but you'd have to read the comics to understand.

You mentioned his hot bodyguards (The dora Milaje) they aren't just there for sex appeal. I beg to differ. If you look into the Dahomey Amazons, the sistas had a warrior tradition not that they embody all the same traits though. Great post man.
