Stand flat on your feet, load down, and explode up. Anything above 35", is pretty damn good, and over 40" is a pretty elite class of athletes.

You have to judge a vertical by the height of the individual in relationship to the highest point that the outstretched hand reaches. Like for instance, you can't compare a 6'8" person to a 5'8", the height is so radically different, arm length, etc. If a 5'8" person is able to dunk a ball then you really have something unusual.
