You get a piece of wood, drill holes in either end and feed rope through it. You then hold the rope in either hand and stand on the wood, walk around flattening the crops. This has been utterly demonstrated many many time.

@ElliotsMedia yep. hurrendosly lavish patterns and ultra quickly done and when planned and executed in numbers a vast area covered in silly time, they do them over the course of a few evenings too, not just one sitting especially if a large design, when you see the planning that goes into it, the maths at work its quite bewildering, the provisional sketches I've seen were immensely detailed with gridded areas breaking down each part of the full piece, ET thats a good film, aliens in that
