  • this song makes me so proud to be Scottish, and this version is so beautiful!

  • Scotland ... God's country ....freeeeeedoooom !

  • wonderful

  • nice song

  • The wee birdies sing an' the wild flouers spring

An' in sunshine the waters are sleeping

But the broken heart, it kens nae second spring again

Tho’ the waeful may cease frae their greetin'.

The part of the song not in the description :)

  • I ended up at Loch Lomond on the day my beloved father died in California. I have no words for what this song means to me.

  • I agree with the guy below me classical only, it was meant to be song by a girl anyway.

  • @MrAmericaRules

Friend the song was written from the point of view of a Jacobite Soldier who is about to be executed. A more sinister verse from his freed comrade is never sung in modern versions.

'While there's heather on the hill

shall my vengeance ne'er be still,

    While a bush hides the glint o' a gun, lad;

Wi' the men o' Sergeant Môr

shall I work tae pay the score,

'Till I wither on the wuddy in the sun, lad!'

  • @MrAmericaRules It was meant to be sung by a guy. The low road is the path of the spirit. The story behind this is that a Jacobite soldier about to be executed is singing to his lover that he will see her again in the "hielan hills" . That being said, this is a beautiful version.

  • so beautiful :) this is the exact version i was looking for! I love it the classical way, no need to jazz it up lol.

  • it always reminds me of the beautiful memories in Scotland. I miss it profoundly...
