Mate, I think the optical part is for galvanic isolation. The ethernet port is for controlling the relay remotely, IMHO.
Optical link mitigates the controller (whether it is a PLC/microcontroller or a PC) getting fried if certain mishap happens on the high voltage relay side. The ethernet part is also sensitive to voltage fluctuation, while the optical receiver on the relay board could be made sturdy and cheap.
i want fiber optics in computers instead of copper wires :D
