Of course young people are going to think older music is better when, especially now, new music isn't that great. I think the super cool 70 year olds are still listening to American Graffiti type music :). But Blind Melon is a timeless band and it will continue to reach across generations.

I play Blind Melon in my car for pretty much everyone who rides in it. I always introduce them as a lesser known or underrated band. The response is always "lesser known? no way". But when I ask them to name any of their songs they say "No Rain" and sometimes they also throw in "Change" but it's rarely more than that. I just nod, smile and say "yup, lesser known" and then blow their minds with the entire discography. Glad I can show them the true beauty of blind melon even over a decade later.
I'm organizing a worldwide Shannon remembrance day. On the date he died (October 21st) I want everybody to spend the day getting high, or whatever you prefer and listen to Blind Melon's music. (I'm not trying to advertise anything wrongly, I love shannon's music). I hope everybody will like the idea and you can find the page on facebook. I love this band, that beautiful man Shannon....... miss him...... love this band so much I gave my daughter the middle name Nico..... and Blind Melon happens to be her favorite band, can't say I know many 2 year olds who know every Blind Melon song by heart but my little girl does and she sings them like crazy and quite well, the girl can harmonize and carry a tune it's amazing she was born with music in her blood.

Talk about under-rated talent, seriously.. 'tis a shame Blind Melon is quite unknown, I found a CD on the ground, a blank sony one, in about 1996, I brought it home and played it, it worked fine, it was filled with Blind Melon. Thanks dude, whoever dropped that CD, for giving me life.

He was fearless in his resolve to be unabashedly true to himself, and his work reflects that character. I love each and every one these guys that play this music, and the way they play it, but the music that these new people add to it makes the music less enjoyable for me. they just cant be the band they used to be without hoon. its like the current members of the band cant reconnect with the energy, the band once had, without hoon.

@FrxBass This was actually recorded in a hotel room. As u hear the cars as well. Letters from a Porcupine was recorded on Thorn's answering machine though, and yes, it was amazing. I'd never have deleted it

@datiki Shannon is awesome. I remember hearing "Change" in high school and being completely blown away by the genius in his words. He was fearless in his resolve to be unabashedly true to himself, and his work reflects that character. Regardless of who you are or what kind of music you listen to, that's something you should admire. Cheers to Shannon and Blind Melon, my life wouldn't be the same without them.

@jeanlament12 If you have an addiction to a hard drug like heroin and you don't stop, you will die. Therefore, as addiction is self inflicted, and he was a heroin addict, he killed himself. There are consequences for everything, and he payed the dearest price for his own actions.

@lt3tretrois You are absolutely correct and I apologize. Does one drive a car knowing they ABSOLUTELY WILL DIE once they drive for too long? No. Does one usually die from prolonged use of very hard drugs? Not always. However, if one causes their own death I have no sympathy to a point. If you inject Cocaine into your bloodstream you should probably expect a little death.
