  • You gotta touch down on the numbers! And too bad the scumbag mayor dozed that field without permission during the night and turned it into a park.

  • @prorobo Thanks! Yeah, I was really bummed that this airport was gone when I got FSX, I had no idea until then, and I researched it. What a bummer!

Isn't touching down on the numbers too early? The aiming point is after the numbers and if you come in too shallow, you'll be right in the water.

  • @pwhite73 Even with runways that have zero overrun, on the numbers is the target for all landings. Now whether or not a pilot can grease the landing on the numbers or has to force the plane down all depends on their skill and ability to maintain the glide slope.

  • @prorobo No, the aiming point is the two large white squares that after the numbers on the runway. The numbers are at the very tip of the runway, and if there is any paved surface before them, it is not full strength pavement to hold the weight of a plane. That is why the aiming point is past them, so that if the pilot comes down early or too hard, they won't crash through pavement.

  • @pwhite73 When you aim for the markers, your wheels touch down "on the numbers." Hence the phrase. I am a pilot after all. As is my cousin.

  • @prorobo I dunno, I work at an airport and I have never seen a plane actually touch down on the numbers. I'm not saying that you're lying or that I don't believe you, but I know from talking with pilots and airport ops where the aiming points are, what lights to look for (red over white), etc.
