@KekkonenKalasti Was it recently that he died when you made the comment? So far I can tell that he could've been as young as 24 when he fought. I think I know the type of person your grandfather was; the type who lived through hell and came out on the other side appreciating all the little joys in life. I apologize if I'm wrong, but your terse description of him reminds me of both my grandpas who went to war and put up with the hardships of being black in that era only to be happy in the end.

My late grandfather was at Salla and survived. He died of cancer at the age of 85. Cracking jokes till the end. Tough geezer. ;)
