We dont have long left. We must act quickly. First by beginning to make available more food for the dingo. Ear tagging must stop all together and so must any form of capture. The Govt's fear education of saying that all dingoes are aggressive and will attack and kill children must cease. Dingoes by nature are quiet ,inquisitive and do seek out human company. I dont mean to be hand fed and patted but they do like watching us. We must realise the pups see people from the time they are born.
Just because someone from a University spends a few days on FI then writes a report does not make them an expert on dingo behaviour. It takes years of living with a dingo to just begin to understand what makes them tick..
Just by hazing them, ear tagging, trapping , poisoning , banning them from the beach from 5am to 5pm and removing over 60 % of their food source will not change a dingoes instinctive behaviour and get them to behave the DERM way. Only a fool would believe that.
Thank you Bob for your thoughtful comments. Many of us have tried unsuccessfully to come to an agreed way to care for the Fraser island Dingo with DERM. I agree we do have to work together. We do have to find a solution to save what is left of this iconic species.
Unfortunately Minister Kate Jones and some members of her Dept. choose to ignore the offers of help, knowledge and experience from people who have lived with dingoes from 10 to 30 years.
The 4 hour raid on Jennifer Parkhursts home also involved 4 government employees ripping up her floorboards. Government departments are immune from Australian law, it seems now they can terrify someone for criticizing what a government department does. Jennifer gave a detailed report to the RSPCA, the RSPCA gave that to DERM, DERM raided Jennifers house and removed her lifes work including any photos of their mismanagement of the Fraser Island Dingo.
I attended the Save the Fraser Island dingo dinner and it was great to see our community rallying behind the organisation and Jennifer Parkhurst.
DERM condones the killing of the Fraser Island Dingo, I have been watching this going on for many years now. Wildlife parks, zoo's have offered the government department full compensation for the trapping and removal alive of any of the islands dingos however this department prefers to kill them instead.
the dingos were here before us
we need to protect them

Hervey Bay man Colin Candy is still today battling this department.
His crime? He saved a joey from it's shot mother and made it part of his family.
Now he doesn't have a family or the joey, he just has supreme court actions pending.
This is all so UnAustralian. These people are not criminals they are animal lovers and conservationists. The government is destroying their lives.
DERM/Minister Kate Jones needs to release all of the records it has on the dingoes.....and be accountable.

Aren't they supposed to protect/preserve?
