  • WOAH HORSIE!

  • Video Muito Bom . Rio De Janeiro

  • THANK YOU DUDE

  • ya ya !

  • i just started with snare drums and im trying to get a little bit ahead of my class but i cant do this, my sticks keep bouncing after i hit the pad and making an extra note, it sounds really sloppy because im supposed to be playing military pipe band style snare drums. any tips?

  • for this you don't have to alternate the hand you start with each time right?

Like this -> RLRL LRLR RLRL

It would seem like you wouldn't because it doesn't make sense ending with your left and then starting with your left and vice versa.

  • falou um rex

  • what's sticks?

  • yeehaw!

  • whooooooooooooooooooh.... finally a relaxing one.. ;)

  • how is the way for practice that ex.?in general for all the rudiments? you drummers do it for time..for example...10 min rudiment 4..other 10 min rudiment 20 for example.....or repeat?...10 times the rudiment 5 other ten, other rudiment...what is the best way? to make productivity in the practice??

  • That's how i warm up :) I do that all around my drums (Even on cymbals) to get the feel how my position. :)

  • we did dat today

  • You are supposed to alternate what hand you start with..

  • @Trippsol Shut up.

  • if im playin a set and im playin right handed do i start with my left or right hand for fills?

  • so to do this...it's not just rolls?...it's all wrist?

  • waahhh! D; it gets harder when it's fast and i get messed up. >___< i really wanna audition for snare. it's been my dream to play since 6th grade and now i'm a senior in high school! i've been stuck on flute all these years... lol.

  • THIs is a great lesson

  • um this is wrong. it's rlrl lrlr

  • That's the easy way to do it. I always played it RLRL LRLR . Much more challenging and it develops BOTH hands, which is the point of rudiments. I don't agree with these "single sided" stickings unless you're playing Billy Cobham licks of-course! lol

  • @pastalavista excellent, no one else checked that RLRL LRLR is more challenging than normal RLRl

thanks for information, you get a cake!!

  • it sound like horse galopping!

  • It is difficult -.-''

    The last part only

  • i've been playing drums and percussion for a few years now but have trouble with these rudiments...i best start practicing them more.

  • @BaysideBreakdown

Dude check out Tommy Igoes fast hands for life. It walks you through a bunch of rudiments and seriously picks up your speed. I've been using it for the last couple weeks and have already seen and felt a huge difference

  • haha, i use this alot as a fill, didn't know it was a rudiment though

  • wat type of sticks is he using? i've been wondering that for awhile

  • marching drum sticks

  • those are deffinitely NOT marching sticks

those things are weird as hell

  • Me too!.... It appears to be sticks made out of wood....

  • Comment removed

  • @Blacklorigine do you always start with the left hand when practicing rudiments?

  • what kind of drumsticks he's using?

  • These videos helped me alot!

  • Oh well, the Guildhall School Of Music have labelled their rudiments wrong. Shows how good they are lol

  • Is this not commonly reffered to as a ruff?

  • a drag is commonly referred to as a ruff

  • Could someone pls leave me a message about which of these rudiments would be best to learn for a beginer drummer and which one's are acutaly mostly used in drumming thank you.

  • practice them all...it will tremendously help.

  • you must learn singles, doubles, flam, and paraddidle first

you could learn rest of them afterwards to improve your creativity

  • Hey, as for rudiments most commonly used in drumming!

    1. Paradidles

    2. Single Stroke Roll

    3. Double Stroke Roll

    4. Flams

Those are the most common types... practice those and you will have a good basis!

  • i've been drumming for a while now but i only got my first pad this weekend, and so i got a list of the rudiments and started practisin, make sure you get leading with the left hand equally as strong on this sortov rudiment.

  • this is good. But like i think this person was holding back just to demonstrate. Once I practiced this enough I got it goin a little bit faster

  • ive been trying to learn this its annoying to get it quick

  • reminds me of the start of the song 'china cat sunflower' :P

  • about those wrists comment, he's actually playing the practice pad on a table. so it's probably why it's a little off.

  • Why is there a space before it repeats?

  • because if there wasnt a space, it would just be a regular single stroke roll

  • its the way the rythm is, watch:

1 ta ta and, 2 ta ta and, 3 ta ta and, and so on. they are sixtuplet notes thats how u say em

  • so its sixteenth note triplets with the last two removed right?

  • Great job!

  • Are you supposed to accent the last stroke? I've never seen this rudiment before o:

  • Yeah.

    rlrL lrlR rlrL lrlR

  • Thanks for posting things!!! I am a beginner drummer and these videos are very helpful!

  • usually called a 4 stroke rough

    :)

  • why there is a pause after four strokes? shouldnt it go round and round?

  • so it doesn't sound like a single stroke roll

  • theres a pause because its meant to played with other people. as in a marching tonal bass line. when played on downbeat and upbeat, it sounds like one person playing a roll

  • youuu spin meee right round baby rigght round like a river baby round round round round

  • meatspin

  • not like a RIVER, its 'like a record'.

by the band dead or alive

  • the easiest of all rudiments

  • yup

  • Haha, it sounds like a horse. Nice job guys.

  • lol..sounds like a gallopping horse...

    but these vids are great!

I've been self teaching for about 6 months now and I think this will really help me get quick enough to eventually play... ASSASSIN by MUSE and SPIRIT OF RADIO by Rush..LoL. .. .those songs..are my everest.

  • try to play some disavowed

  • hahah or origin

  • Do you buzz on all of these?

  • i'm actually getting better at this : )

  • Isn't this rudiment supposed to alternate between left and right hand leading? On this video the drummer is leading with the right on every group of four.

  • maybe hes an idiot

  • you can begin with either hand. i suggest practicing both ways, so that way one hand doesn't end up weaker. this applies to all the rudiments.

  • hmmm... im too slow!

  • cuz you have to practice your left hand!!!

  • this sucks my right hand is faster then my left hand

  • me too.

  • me three.

  • me... 4?

  • no! me too

  • dude sick i can finaly learn free

  • confused.

is this rudiment the same as a ruff? the ruff aparently has 3 grace notes before the main stroke and i can see the single stroke 4 has 3 notes too, not necessarily grace notes though, BUT at a faster tempo they sound the exact same and have the same sticking.only diffrance is how they are written.

could as many people as possible give their opinion.

    thanks

  • yeah i'm sure this is a ruff.. i think of a 4 stroke ruff as 4 fast singles with an accent at the end.. i use doubles for this rudiment but kinda paste the doubles together so the fall in between each other RR LL (doubles) becomes RLRL

  • no a ruff is where the three grace nots are played with one hand and then on the beat comes the actual note you hear. this is a single stroke roll. meaning that this would be 32nd notes or in other words its diddled 16th notes taht you use rlrl instead of rrll. so a ruff is lllR and this is RLRL a ruff has NO rythmic placing as far as where each not goes, its just a quick little susspence building buzz right be fore your attack.

  • the single stroke four are executed at the same velocity every stroke is pronounced the same volume when a ruff ghost are much quieter, very true they do sound the same though

  • there are no grace notes in single stroke 4....and no accents....its all played at the same volume....

  • i wonder what happened to good old "long roll"

  • yea,i can do it if i start with my left hand

  • cool thanks this is awesome

  • uhm...! hay que puro practicar

  • okay but left hand ??? what the right hand does, the left hand does....

  • u need to rotate you hands to make that a reall 4 stroke roll like this LRLR RLRL LRLR RLRL

  • That's only to practice leading with the left - playing it alternately - LRLR RLRL - would only slow you down, as you finish on the same hand you start. It would turn into some paradiddle variation - RLRLLRLRR

  • No, it wouldn't slow you down. The drummer stops momentarily as it is, it wouldn't/and shouldn't change the speed.

  • yes it would

  • I agree with bricc4. It doesn't slow me down either. Maybe you guys need more practice.

  • lol,im joking

    it doesnt

i can do paradiddles really fast now

  • This Rudiment should not be buzzed.

  • Thats a seven stroke roll... and it should be buzzed...

  • Check the vicfirth website. I think you have been misinformed about the correct definitions and stickings for the essential rudiments.

  • are you kidding me...

  • Go to the Educational Section on the vicfirth website and find the 40 essential rudiments. There are some videos that demonstrate better technique than this video.

  • Are you serious? I thought this was the ultimate.... I think I know what rudiments are... and I know those are only single strokes.... a roll is BUZZED

  • Not trying to offend. The wording of your original statement seemed as though you were claiming this rudiment to be a 7-stroke roll. No hard feelings, just clearing things up. Thanks.

  • Well it is a seven stoke roll, but in marching it may be called 4 stroke, if you buzz it it's a 7, if you tap it its a 4, sorry for this, only mixing two styles we shouldnt mix

  • No, it's a single stroke 4. Sure there are componants of other rudiments in some rudiments, but that doesn't mean you can call a 15 stroke roll a buzzed 15-beat single stroke roll. It like saying "that isn't a car, it's an engine attached to some body work". This wouldn't even have 7 hits if it was buzzed, it'd be 8.
