@lotmein20 You must have some serious GPU power then, because a 590 runs at max 1920x1200 average 60 fps. 580SLI runs about 70fps. So you have dual 590's, maybe quad 580's, dual 6990's which you will see 120fps with, but not as an average. that, or you're running on a very low resolution like 1680x1050 or lower.

You have no idea what Hammer is like.

- Multi Layer materials on terrain are not available for Hammer as you can only have 2 textures on each displacement.

- You have a very limited amount of entities you can place.

- Map grid is smaller than UE. UE can have entire islands while Hammer can only have a small part of it.

- Handling models in Hammer is crap. (Like Scaling)

- Having too small polygons on your displacement causes crash.

- Doesn't support dynamic sun.

- Graphics.

The demo is acutally running on 3 gtx580s pc graphics, the consoles have to step back a bit i think unless they introduce the next gen with duel/tri custom graphics of current latest pc tech like the gtx580/590s, hd 5970s/6990s. So don't even think about next gen unreal games like this will run on the current 360 and ps3, next year Will U uses of custome ati hd4000s archi might able to get some juice out of this but depends on how the console being optimised still...:S

It is true that there are no unreal engine games that have a destruction level akin to that of Frostbite, but unreal engine supports PhysX and/or ApeX physics destruction and has a built-in tool to fracture a mesh so it can be broken, so it will be readily available once developers start using it.

@TJsButtBuddy because these tools are there and easy to use they can incorporate them into pc versions. they normally wouldn't spend alot of there budget hiring programmers to give them bokeh DOF and stuff like that but because of the simplicity of putting them in, i think they will. the current consoles should be able to handle some of these things anyway, maybe at a lower resolution but they should still work.

Take the game RAGE for example. The 360 version will have to be on 2 DVD discs while the Ps3 only needs one blu ray. They need to fit as much onto the disc as possible. If all games used 5 gb to install, there would never be any space on consoles.

Proprietary is an engine that is not entirely free. There are usually strings attached, better versions for use for more money, and some even require licenses. In-House is the engine they created themselves so they don't have to pay to use an existing one. Only the company and its subsidiaries can use it.

DX11 is the next version of directX which is a program for windows that basically tells the OS how to handle the resource needs of things related to detailed graphics

MSAA is antilasting (which makes a 3-D object smoother in apperance) that applies it to the entire object rather then just the wiremesh

Consoles drive the video game industry. Every console is a person that intends to buy a video game, but the vast majority of computers will never play a single game.

In short, consoles are the major market due to a concentrated target audience, not because of the graphical power.

Even though graphics cards and processors have greatly improved in the last 6 years the fact that devs can optimize their games for the hardware means consoles can easily keep up with what 80% of PC gaming rigs will do, and not even remotely close to every PC gamer can keep their rig top notch with the most recent upgrades.
