All I can say is I flew with Blackwater / Iraq several times. In those flights they were anything but complacent. I was shocked the first flight because I assumed you fly HIGH to avoid getting shot down. But their strategy - which apparently makes sense - is to fly very LOW and very FAST because it actually decreases the time to be spotted and attacked. So I do not think they were flying low "for fun." It scared the living crap put of me and the gunners on the chopper seemed pretty damn alert

All I can say is I flew with Blackwater / Iraq several times. In those flights they were anything but complacent. I was shocked the first flight because I assumed you fly HIGH to avoid getting shot down. But their strategy - which apparently makes sense - is to fly very LOW and very FAST because it actually decreases the time to be spotted and attacked. So I do not think they were flying low "for fun." It scared the living crap put of me and the gunners on the chopper seemed pretty damn alert

The 17 dead incident happened literally on the 4 minute ride from our compound to the Green Zone. I can't judge because I wasn't there. But our team pretty much had the incident on tape because they have CCTV all over that area. The S. Africans said it seemed that Blackwater overreacted. But even they said it's hard to judge. Very sad story
