@96KAYYBAYY I'm sorry that it took 2 days to respond! I'm not sure what type of spacers that you have, but I cannot imagine that they will break. If you are really worried, I would call your orthodontist and see if they can walk you through it.

@Bommsday Every orthodontist does this process differently. Some use spacers, some do not. I would check with your orthodontist to see his/her protocol.

It is best to leave it in as long as possible. If it fall out, call your orthodontist to see how they would like you to proceed.

I just got mine a few hours ago and it was messy. I have like no space between my teeth so it took them like 30 mins to do it so they don't hurt me. But it hurt, there was blood all over. haha. But it just feels uncomfortable now, kinda giving me a headache. I'm gonna get the top braces on tuesday.

I got spacers today... it takes like, five minutes to pop 'em in. I've gone an hour so far, and I haven't experienced any pain or MAJOR discomfort yet. If you're getting them, don't worry to much. I'm getting braces on Wednesday... I'm more concerned about that.

Yeah, I just had mine done yesterday. A lady said that it was gonna hurt but it didn't, not as bad as I thought it was gonna be. I was afraid though that they would fall out, so I watched this.

It kind of stops hurting if you brush your teeth for the usual 20 seconds.

It really depends on where the gaps are located. Some orthodontists don't use spacers at all. The spacers are really designed to open space in the back around molars.

Well I have gaps all over. Seriously these spacers will not fit. Even the largest ones. Now my 1st appointment is coming up and they said they will take my mold figures and add the separators then the next week after that they will add the braces. Is it possible for them to do everything on my first visit if they decide I don't need the spacers? thanks for responding.

Every office does things a little different. some decide to take 2 appointments and some can do it in one.

Mine hurt alot the first 2 days, im on my 3rd day with 6 on the bottom and 2 on the top and i barely even feel them. only one has a very very dull ache. I take 2 ibprofin at 10 or so when i wake up, and i'm good all day.

Sometimes it does for just a minute or so...usually food debris and bacteria accumulate around spacers and irritate the gums. Once they are out, the body heals that area very quickly.

To be honest, spacers are usually the worst part of braces. It is the first time your teeth are moving, and they will definately be sore on the second day. :(

It is hard to know if there is a problem without seeing the situation. If you think there is something wrong, it is probably best to have your orthodontist check it out.

I'm sure you would know. Usually, spacers are easy to see with your eyes and feel with your tongue.

ok right now i hate my dentist,they said it was bad for me to wear spacer for more than 2 weeks and then they make me wear them for 4 weeks not only that they made me wear these metel ring things on the back of my teeth. there is pretty much no reson why i wear the metal thing its just there and it bothers my cheek and tounge.

what happens if the spacers get stuck?my friend got his spacers stuck and had to crack them in half by getting his pocket knife and then he got a toothpick and picked it out because the knife kept on scraping the side of his mouth and he got scared.... so he picked them out.....he almost got his tooth broken...

I'm not sure how a spacer gets "stuck." Your orthodontist will be able to remove the spacer where ever it is. I would not worry about having to use a pocket knife or breaking your tooth.

What your orthodontist told you is usually true. If you have another week or so before you are supposed to get the braces on, though, the space will close back up.

Don't be scared! The day the braces are placed is going to be a breeze! The day after, you will be sore, but it should last only a couple of days.

I'm not sure about the talking bit; but when you swallow, your tongue and cheek muscles press on the teeth somewhat. These pressures may be causing some of the pain. I hope this post helps!
