awesome review pal thanks alot -- ordered one last night.. being a member of the forces i need to get my meal and my drink done in a few minutes to continue the exercise.. better than most other stoves and especially the dirty smelly hexi cooker our army issues. Keep up the good work.
trust me the jetboil still work at -25,i live in canada and use it in the winter when i go snowshoeing,,and its priceless to be able to cook right on your kayak between your legs, nice dog
Ohh as an addition, I found cold weather performance to be good, albeit when I tested it was around -1c / +2c @ 900m in the uk's lakes district and it handled it well but that was with a full canister (small size).
I get around 20ish uses per small canister (using the described method below for heating up retort pouches in outdoor use)
I have one of these systems and are great for heating up retort pouches, placeing one in the system then adding water and bringing it to the boil took just a few minutes, once boiling I switch the system off and leave for 5 mins before re boiling the water and leaving again for 5 mins helps save on fuel. my only critism is that its hard to get more than 2 wetpacks inside it so I upgraded to the GCS system. but for solo hikes I still use the PCS system.
Thanks for this... am thinking of buying one and nice to see it in action without a lot of "fluff". I'm also curious how the Fluxring frypan/pot works with it though.
Also, bonus points for the guest star appearance by your two beautiful dogs! :D
I also own the Jetboil system. No complaints from me. Though i wonder how the Fluxring Pan will work with this unit, its steep price tag keeps me away. Your dogs are beautiful by the way. Great vid.
Absolutely great video, thank ryanjcus for my subscription he listed you in one of his recent vids. How did the JetBoil work in the cold, I have been enamored by these from the day they hit the market. Although I have yet to justify the price (and they have gotten more expensive since), for a canister stove. Any drawbacks that you have found? Thanks again for the videos, keep em' coming.
So far its been working great. I used it on a business trip in my hotel room when I needed something hot to drink and didn't feel like getting dressed and heading out to dinner. In the next few weeks Im going to go for a long day hike so Ill let you know how it worked as far as cooking.
I tried it out in minus 15 celcius and the boiling time for a half empty can and ½ liter of water was around 3½-4 minutes, the gas can was not warmed up before using it, it was laying in my ruck´ all night
yes thank you! when i hiked the smokies we had mountain house it was horrible! we couldnt carry mres (to heavy) but noodles are best also backpackers pantry is good it usualy comes with pilot crackers pbjelly franola bars granola mres are the best but they take up room and are heavy also i dont know if this is common knowledge but they have a coffee maker attachment as well as an over sized pot (we used it for cooking large amounts of pasta) great vids btw
Once the water is boiled, how easy is it to poor into the bag of food? If you hold it by the handle and tip it slowly (to poor carefully into the bag or a nalgene bottle) does it run down the side of the jetboil and cause water to go all over the heating element and fuel tank? Or is the edge designed to prevent that (like on a plastic 1 gallon milk/water jug)?
The main cup disconnects from the heating element so you cant accidently pour water onto it. And pouring the water out is very easy and I didnt have any run down the side. When I do the field test on my GHB I'll try to film the JetBoil a bit more in detail for you.
Got it from Cabela's online. They had the best price on it. Also a lot of the local places by me have them but they were about $10.00 more. CampMor also had it.
Nice vid and awesome dogs, your a lucky guy! I ended up getting a jetboil myself and pairing it with a GSI soloist cookset. In addition, I would highly recommend the pot adapter and the base stabalizer.
Thanks for the comment. I'm probably going to pick the pot kit up after the Holidays. Cant do too much in the way of cooking with just the standard set.
your dogs are awsum man, my girlfriend owns an ally, absolutly gorgeous dog, we get on like best friends... and i get on with the dog pretty good too lol joke.. awsum vid i will have to try one of these stoves looks pretty impresive..
Thanks Ryan, I figured if anyone would appreciate them it would be you. The JetBoil seems pretty good but Im curious to see how long the canisters last and how they work in the cold.
I may have to do a review on the Mountain House meal I had. Tasted pretty good but the sodium was insane. 1230mg @ 51% Half an hour later I still felt like I was sucking on a salt pill. Not good if you have limited water cause you need it all for at least 2 hours.
The dogs are beautiful. Thats cool that they are sisters. I'm sure they are very loyal, intelligent, and effective security guards. The jet-boil looks wicked!! Thanks for the great demo. Looks like a great piece of gear for your GHB. Excellent Video *****
To increase boiling point place lid over Jetboil when cooking ;) know flash's have them unsure with original

Is it safe to be carrying around in a back pack ? I am afraid to put anything that may explode, etc?
I know some one suggested to carry a stainless steel water bottle for drinking and boiling.
I wonder if this one is better ? or should carry both ?

I've heard about these & like the other posts, thanks for sharing your info.
You didn't mention that there was some type of safety recall on the product over the last year.
Also, I'm curious how many hot water boils you get out of one of those gas canisters?
I'll have to look up the weight to see how heavy it is.

Hey Magnum, how well did it cook the Mountain House?
Gorilman34 2 years ago
Really well. I also picked up the pot stabilizer and that works great with larger pans.
Thanks for the comment.

Best jetboil demo on youtube. The others are either clumsy and awkward or overy lengthy. Good job.
Thanks for sharing your dogs. They look like great camping companions!

I know you need salt when you hike but the sodium in this one meal was so bad I was drinking water for 3 hours after I had it. It was totally nasty.
05MagnumSXT 3 years ago
the breakfasts were worst for me it was eggs with like 3000 grams of sodium iw as like blahhhhhhhhhhhh
also jetboil works wll in cold im using it today for a no tent cmapout in the upper pennisula (i live in michigan_)
