THANK YOU SO MUCH ELLIOT! My pain is almost gone but it comes again if I don't do the exercises/strechtes you shown for a week. is there a way to PERMANENTLY fix the pain? Please thumbs up so he can see this. I'm really suffering from this pain.
Great video just thought id mention dude the piriformis is not a hip flexor its one of the deep six lateral rotatores of the femur bone and if its hypertonic then its antagonist needs also to be looked at which is the internal rotatores aprt from that good solid advice .
this is my exact problem on my right hip... after using the foam roller i felt a million times better.. can you show me the exercises that prevent this? I'm just starting to make strides in my squat weight.. should i de-load or is it safe to keep putting very light increases on the bar? Thanks in advance!!!
"Really just have a built-up, goddamn, piriformis deep in their ass" Haha, this guy cracks me up.
I have an interesting question, what are your credentials? I don't doubt your knowledge and techniques, just interested in any degrees or certificates you have because you sound like a physical therapist, which is what I'll (hopefully I get accepted) be going to school for.
elliot thanks so much, i just did the second stretch you mentioned and the pain in my left hip is finally gone. im gonna keep doing it for the rest of my exercises.
Elliot your the most intelligent fitness coach ive ever seen on utube, your vids are realy helping me out. If also physio's had your no how we'd all be feeling alot better!
Yo Elliot!! i have the same problem as the guy in this video but the pain is on my right side , when i'm squatting my hips shift to the right. in this video you are saying to only stretch the same side but in your other video ''Squat Exercise Technique Cues (how to coach the squat)'' , you're saying that if my hip shift to the right when squatting , you have to stretch the opposite side only , what should i do?
Yo Elliot! I am a rower, I have an over active periformus - when I do that roller exercise I can't stop cursing.
The issue is, when I do the stretch you recommended I get a pinching pain in the front of my hip.
The other issue is I also need to know how to train my glutes to enage when I am compact during a squat (very similar to the front of the rowing stroke - which is where I am actually struggling to engage my glute).
A lot of my rowing team mates have similar issues, please assist?

Thanks for this video- for a while I've thought that I had a bulging disc and sciatica but after working at the exercises in this video I'm sure that it was weakness and tightness in my hips. Maybe now it will finally get better!
Im a cyclist i have been to every specialist you can think of,thy were say i had a hernitaed disc, but after exercise my side of my hip would tighten up,so I dont hink it has anything to do with my discs,I will try your excercises, thanks so much for your help!!!!

I have treated many patients that wrestle and believe or not fencing athletes. Many sports where you drive off a lead foot with explosive movements, like shooting in with wrestling or foil in fencing, have a huge incidence in what is referred to as piriformis syndrome. In a certain percentage of the population the piriformis is a two-headed muscle and the sciatic nerve pierces through the two bellies. If that muscle gets over activated it will cause a sciatica-like symptom. Foam-rolling is good!
Elliot! I would really appreciate a video regarding strain injury in a wrist :S I've got one.. I've had an inflammation for 9 weeks (It dissapeared after the first 3 weeks, but when I started again.. without a break = my bad.. it came back ! and it's still here.. for 5-6 weeks :S!! Brushing my teeth is hurting, playing the guitar and the piano, taking notes at school, and so on.. My right wrist is USELESS! My doctor told me to "wait".. I'm using an anti-inflammation atm, but.. it's still here!!!
Elliot is the truth..I been following for a few weeks and Im co-signing ! You said you want interesting questions? I got one for you....How about training with heel spurs or flat feet?

These stretches really seem to hit right where my hips were starting to kill while squatting. Any follow-ups on how to strengthen those muscles?
