  • I got nothing but love for ya! victor. But dont know about you standing behing me and "massaging my Trapezius muscle " :-).

Jokes aside your advise has helped me out so much. I dropped to 25lbs dumbells as opposed to 45lbs.But attacked the movment slowly + with concentration on my movment. It was the most phenomanal workout ever...Thanks!

  • Love you to man' Peace, Vic

  • For those of you arguing that behind the neck is bad, you need to note a few things: 1) note his form; it's perfect. The KEY point is that he's only lowering his elbows parallel to the ground, not below, which is where the shoulder capsule becomes overstrained, resulting in injury. The bar gets to about ear level, and he returns the bar up. It's lowering the bar to the base of the neck that will strain the neck, and possibly damage the shoulders. Good luck, and thanks Vic!

  • Behind the head should only be done in moderation because it pulls joints to an awkward position and can damage your delts if used regularly.

  • behind the shoulders isn't recommended, it's easy to fall back if you're only managing 4-6 reps due to weight. But I guess when you look like this guy, you'd have learnt a thing or two about controlling the weight, not letting the weight control you. But generally for newcomers and even those that have trained for almost a year, I'd still not recommend it, and neither would the guys at my gym.

  • are you sure that's improper for shoulders? or is it improper for lat pulldown's (to come behind the shoulders)? or maybe both?

  • Both Aikido Saint and Achilles5Cenci are wrong and right at the same time. Behind the neck destroyed my shoulders but many of my other friends benefit from it greatly, in limited amounts. You guys need to remember not to rely on it to heavily because of the potential for injury, even though you may not get injured from doing it. Rule of thumb, if it feels uncomfortable then do not do it.

  • aikidosaint wtf are you talking about going behind your head is a great way to gain shoulder mass and also portions of your back

  • "imagine me behind you massaging your trapezius muscles"... whoa MAN! lol. nah i'm kidding. good workout.

  • WTF!? Not behind the head. Bad form!

  • i think he knows what he's doing, i mean look his body.

  • You're confusing cause and effect. The guy is in admittedly bad ass shape. I know a few people who eat nothing but junk and hardly work out and still look damn good. Does that mean I should do what they do. I've adopted some of his stuff. Behind the neck is still bad form, feel free to damage your body if you like.

  • Yea most would tell you behind the shoulder isn't recommended.

But i guess you can do it if you want.

  • in terms of gaining weight, is it better to do high weight, low rep(like 4-6), or a controlled weight and 8-12 reps?

  • 8-12 reps for several sets 4 up to 6. That's my opinion.

  • Is it better to keep the bar in front or behind the head? Also, is it okay to use the bench in the upright position so your back is against it? I have your audio series and it doesn't mention this. Great stuff though and I'm thoroughly enjoying the audio programs! Best $5 investment ever!

  • nice! Do you have "light" or "moderate weeks" when weight lifting? (not including your hypothetical week off obviously)

  • hi Vic!

I was just wondering, how come your doing this exercise behind your neck? I believe you said in the lat pulldown video that this is not recommended, because it gives unatural stress on deltoids.
