Thats not night vison its a slow shutter speed while recording, its available on all panasonic models from 2008 to present go to your menu and go to manual mode and select a slow shutter mode, or select a low light scene from the menu
@aicellopack This is available my changing from Auto to manual focus then pushing in the mini joystick to get a selection of stuff on the display, on the 2/3 selection go for the top choice, "Colour night view", it is an icon with a cresant moon and a star this amplifies the light but the frame rate drops dramatically.
@Riquelme1011 my earlier comment, "This is available my changing from Auto to manual focus then pushing in the mini joystick to get a selection of stuff on the display, on the 2/3 selection go for the top choice, "Colour night view", it is an icon with a cresant moon and a star this amplifies the light but the frame rate drops dramatically." as the frame rate is low you kinda need a tripod to stabilise it to get the best picture quality.
You can convert the HD to MPEG from the editing section of the HD Writer software. It still is not liked by any of the programs I have but Quicktime Pro with the Mpeg add on will convert it to a MOV file which then can be edited. You loose a bit but it is still much better quality than a standard camcorder. Software that will work directly with the HD is on the way or so I hear.
I reccomend all models of Xacti. Because it able to mpeg4 format and edit normal PC. Also model HD100 record full HD. If you'll upgrade PC , you can edit full-HD format.
I will travel to Japan whit my MacBook pro... :) and my friend Live in japan whit its Dell XPS... only I think it is a very good camera, Better than a tape by the weight
Realy? Do you want to record full HD format? If yes, I recommend this camera. But If you want to use for post internet, I don't recommend this camera. Because you will spend lot of time for convert AVHDC format to MPEG format.
Also need high performance PC for edit AVHDC format. I have dell M1210 laptop. But I can not edit it.

How does this compare with Sanyo Xacti HD1000. Im debating over these two.
akkukulhari 3 years ago
If you have powerful PC for edit AVCHD , I reccomend both video camera. But you don't have powerful PC , I not recomend Panasonic SD5.
HD1000 able to record normal MPEG format. But SD5 only record AVCHD format.

damn..thats slow, what was that? 4 fames / sec ?
audiofreeq 4 years ago
I think 2 frames / sec. Night vision mode is for take slow movement my opinion. Sleeping baby with out disturbe or take night scenery.
Night mode is not main feature of this video camera.
Also Sony CX7 has same mode. But I have not try it.
aicellopack 4 years ago
thats ok mate i tend to use infrared for night shots mainly for nocturnal wildlife owls, bats, deer and the like
audiofreeq 4 years ago
This night mode is not use Infrared. And I strongly NOT recommend this camera for wildlife photo and video.

Very nice. If you want to download some high quality test clips I've posted some files here: tinyurl . com / yuxrmd
I haven't tested the night vision, but a lot of other situations. Including a regular recording in very low light.

Very good quality video in your website. I want to edit with full-HD format. But I can not it. Because my PC is poor performance.
I think nigit vision is use for take sleeping baby. Not for night surveillance. Because framerate is very slow.
aicellopack 4 years ago
Hmm, interesting demonstration. Pity about the lag.
Hey mate, I was looking into buying this camera - can you tell me, what framerate does it offer?
SplinterCell37 4 years ago
Are you ask about framerate of this camera? or What is framerate?
aicellopack 4 years ago
Of the camera, sorry. I know it's not related to the video but I don't know who else to ask ^^;
SplinterCell37 4 years ago
I confirmed panasonic website. 1/30 shutter speed is minimum. If you want to get more information. Please ask Panasonic via your dealer.

neroxyn 4 years ago
DMX-HD2 is my recommend. But if you give up full-HD format, you'll easy to choose video camera and you choose except Sanyo Xacti series.

What Model? of Sanyo xacti
neroxyn 4 years ago
I reccomend all models of Xacti. Because it able to mpeg4 format and edit normal PC. Also model HD100 record full HD. If you'll upgrade PC , you can edit full-HD format.
Panasonic HDC-SD5 is not able to recode MPEG4.

Mmmm not for internet videos,
I will travel to Japan whit my MacBook pro... :) and my friend Live in japan whit its Dell XPS... only I think it is a very good camera, Better than a tape by the weight
neroxyn 4 years ago
Understand your purpose of use video camera. But HD format editing is very heavy. I think latest Dell XPS is enough power of edit AVHDC format.
If you don't need full HD. I recommend Sanyo Xacti non full HD model.
aicellopack 4 years ago
Ok Thanks, and this camera its my next buy :)
