  • We should train them to use conventional weaponry and send them to aid the Special Forces. The bad guys will NEVER see them coming.

You walked past with a group and we had a chat. Please feel free to link to my video. I will attempt to determine the problem with the video response facility. I'm heading back north soon. I'll have a beer with you when I'm back home.

  • @panvorax

OK tried to upload one of the mating videos but damn AAPT cut out on my after 2 hours.

  • Weird no retard came and wrote something nonsensical like "photoshop'd" or "fake"

  • @aquamarine1416 ... Read my comment

  • @Murdulo

  • @Murdulo

It's because we all know that it's fake. Nobody needs to be told the obvious.

    ;D

    ;D

    ;D

  • favorite animal ever

    lol

  • it wasn't trying to match the coral perfectly plus when a predator is near it sinks into the sand along with camo so the shark cant see the flaps- sharks dont have the best eyes either

  • @soccer5809 i know cuttlefishes are the best in camouflague but i don't know what's the difference between a squid and a cuttlefish.

  • One major difference is that squid are generally streamlined open-water swimmers, while cuttlefish are slower, floating animals that stay in the shallows near the bottom. B/c of this, cuttlefish have a large, hollow cuttlebone which squids lack, which they fill with gas to provide neutral buoyancy. They also have a "skirt" fin that goes all the way around the mantle, while squids usually just have 2 fins near the tip. Also, most squids have to keep swimming all the time to stop from sinking.

  • Cuttlefish are also remarkably intelligent, something I think squids don't exactly place #1 one... and cuttlefish are cuter!

  • pin it to my wall and train it to recieve cable

    Cheap HDTV

  • This should be called cutefish lol jk but its awesome kinda freaked out when i saw it fade at first O_O

  • how can a shark not see that! i can barley but the lil movein fins on the its sides give it away just a bit

  • Because sharks are retarded.

  • thanks

  • yaeh cool

  • cool

  • lol

  • Woah!!!!!! He changed FAST!

  • so their basically, swimming LCD televisions :D

  • Hopefully a white pointer will sort you out sonner than later.

    Cuttlefish= WIN

    White Pointer Shark=WIN

    YOU= Epic LOSE

  • why would you hope for that? your a horrible person.

  • Just joking ,I'm sure he's a fantastic guy and I realyy don't want him to be eaten by a shark ...fuck...talk about can't take a joke.

I do have a harsh sense of humour I suppose...oh well.

  • Oh it's you... I'm sorry . I meant nothing by it.. Happy hunting.

    Cheers!

  • why would you spear a cuttlefish? your a horrible person.

  • he picked up an active camo

  • lol

  • Show off.

If I were that smart I could blend in to my couch when my gf is looking for me.

  • Spot on mate, thanks for the very informative comment. Maybe the best yet. As you have set the tone of the discussion nice and high let me add that irridiophores are the reflective devices that reside beneath the chromatophores. The system is very much like the silvery layer under an LCD that allows you to see the display with ambient light.

  • they can create instant color-pattern-and contrast change and even optical illusions!!! If anyone leaves near the DC area you should come to the Zoo and see our cuttlefish there for yourself (we have three adults [two females one male] and our babies just hatched about a month ago and they are so adorable!!!) Yes i work at the zoo.. INVERTEBRATE EXHIBIT MUST SEE!

  • I can attest to the quality of the exhibit. This invertebrate display was wonderful, from an octopus to cuttlefish to chambered Nautili to beautiful coral reef set ups, even a prawn!

Better than the so called "national aquarium" in Baltimore, which was a disappointment, where almost all their displays had fake corals and rock work.

  • I can explain how they change colors like that: There are two things that make it change color (which is does faster and in more patterns than any known animal on earth minus chuck norris) First cuttlefish have over 20 million Chromataphores [which are pigment cells that create patterns], and under those are reflective cells. Also they can manipulate the skin it self Creating very defined bumps or staying completely smooth (which is the normal mode).

  • i wish I cud do that...

  • I can

  • How does it even know how to do that. Its just errggh???

  • Holy crap! Who the hell needs photoshop!?

  • Does anyone else feel like there watching a scene from "Tron" lol

  • isnt it that they have colored tissue that can dialate by muscles pulling on it like a trampoline? or is that an octopus...either way cuttlefish are bamfs

  • cuttlefish be some cool niggaz

  • WHOAAA DAANG that's fast!!! cuttlefish are sooo cool

  • just awsome,

Cuttlefish look like aliens and this camouflage is a master technic.

  • dang they look scary but amzing!

  • Amazing, I;ve watched a dozen cuddle fish videos in the last 15 minutes that is the coolest

  • wow. that thing will own EVERYBODY at halo.

  • xD!

  • how deep down are you, or is it just that blue naturally

  • That is amazing!

  • That is so bamf. X}

  • that is so bad ass mother fucker is what you said.

  • I actually knew that.

    thanx? lol

bamf is just fun to say. X]

  • i wonder what it feels like to activate camouflage..

I wonder if its an energy draining process...

  • @Kenji

I've heard that their camouflage is done through the process of tighting and/or stretching their muscles.

So yes it does take energy for active camo

  • no not really most of the camouflage is due to the symbiotic bacteria by the intermixing of chemicals they synthesise and other chemicals it synthesises itself...and changes light contrasts using its cells called photophores which are also capable of changing the shape and pattern

  • actually that also is incorrect, well some of it. The eyes of the cuttlefish detect the light/dark difference between whats below them and whats above them. Since their CNS is was drives the colour change it can happen instantaneously. They use their muscles to a certain extent, but not so much like a octopus. Rather the pigmented cells (chromatophores, or more specifically melanophores) are able to disperse or aggregate the pigment inside those cells. If they are more dispersed they appear

  • darker and if they are more clumped together they appear lighter. Along with these melanophores there are another type of cell called irridiphores which have irridescent characteristics. These cells are surrounded by melanocyte pigments to again, if the melanocytes are aggregated, more light enters these irridiphores displaying a specific type of colour, if they are dispersed, less light enters and the colour is duller and more matte. :) This isnt very energetically costly however changing the

  • texture requires more muscular work and that is what most of their energy is spent doing.

  • the above mentioned facts by me were from a documentery form sir david attenborough

  • Is it swimming backwards???

  • yeah they do that.

  • by jet propulsion

  • 200 DPI...mind powers...a taste for physicists..

  • just read xkcd, which prompted me to wiki it, which lead me to this video.

  • lol same

  • Elite: engage active camouflage

Shipmaster: You may wish to do the same arbiter but beware your armor isnt as new as ours

Arbiter: ok... *click* oooh im invisible

    *2 seconds later*

    Arbiter: (while sneaking around grunts)

    *phheew*

    Arbiter: uh oh...

    9000 heretics: WORT! WORT WORT!!

  • Hahaha ^^

  • Now, if only the arbiter was a cuttlefish...4 jaws...hmmmmm...

  • cool

  • your vid is being featured on myspace right now. someone else uploaded it tho

  • not too cuttly

  • i have cuttlefish

  • YOU ABANDONED MY HATRED!

  • thats soooo COOL!

i love diving so much and cuttlefish are the best. i've just started putting up some of my diving video's for anyone who is interested
