No, HD 5770 was the first card that supported DX11.

You can only make identical cards work together. Nvidea uses SLI to make grahpics cards work together, and AMD uses crossfire. There is no combination between crossfire and SLI. So you can either buy another 5870, and put those on crossfire, or just let the hd 5870 do everything alone > which it surely can, because it's an awesome grahpics card.. sorry but the 9800 gtx is quite useless now, maybe put it in another pc, or sell it.. whatever

I suppose it's gonna be about a year to get a 5870 for a reasonable price. You'll need a tough CPU also, so except You got too much money to spend, You'll be satisfied wtih a 4870 or a gtx260 or sthg. Since my 4870 Vapor-X has quite huge tuning potential, I guess it's gonna last some 3 years or so without any problem. And for example a BF BC2 (I hope) will probably run flawlessly with DX10.

Featuress of DirectX 7, are only now, being implemented in games. And with the ability to actually run them on a normal PC. There isnt a card available that can run DX10 features at reasonable framerates. ID softwaer has the right idea. They are looking at new ways to use the tech we already have, different ways to process graphics. A new 3-400 $/£ a year card is unnaceptable, or people WILL stop using the PC as a gaming platform.

The technology is slowing, which is a good thing, my 8800gtx's, normally would have been destroyed by another card in about 9 monhts. it took over 2 years for a nearly next-gen card from that series to arrive. I kind of did that on purpose... I have used nVidia for years and sold nVidias name to everyone who was building a gaming pc. However, recently, when shopping for an upgrade for my new pc, and after MONTHS of research I simply found I couldnt hold on to my true fanboyism for nvidia. So I went out and assembled the absolute best AMD had to offer with a phenom 2 black edition and a 4890 for hundreds less than Intel/nVidia and I am loving it! I have all games maxed out!

nVidia makes awesome and innovative stuff and they will always be there to keep AMD in check, but Radeon/Phenom packs a pretty powerful punch, and is very cost effective for those regular folks like me who dont have a couple of grand lying around to build a bleeding edge computer:-)
