  • Church kills us, it's a mind changer just like alcohol and drugs.

  • why don't we, natives, just show other races what it is to be native!

  • O yea.. and the worst thing is that they go to christian church. Like: yea white americans don't give a fuck about you but their white God defonately does. Give these Indians their land an life back!

  • It is said to see how americanized these indians are:o Their own culture is beautiful but now they all dress like hillbillys and cowboys. The documentary maker is also a stupid fuck. Asking what year is it? Why should everyone use electricity. Electricity is the thing that fucks a lot up in this world. If the Indians got the space from the white people to develop and keep up there own culture they would still live good now and not in these fucked up cercomstances. btw im white nd from europe

  • @mylozuud What the hell are you talking about? Are you trying to say that Native Americans should have stopped advancing as soon as the Europeans arrived? The guy would obviously love to have electricity, if you can tell.

People are going to dress however they want to....

If you want to dress in traditional Native attire they can......but most people dress to the timeline it is.

Religions is a choice as well.

    Think about what you're saying....

  • @retrohippie I understand your point but I mean they became dependent of the Europeans and had no free space to advance in their own way. Hundreds of their cultures are gone or almost gone as a result of violence. Maybe that's all history but at least they should get more help in the present to keep their way of life in stand instead of letting them hang on the lowest rung of society.

  • Why always americans try to show indians as people who drink too much or use drugs?! In every nation there lot of people who drink or use drugs and they are not just poor people!

  • This documentary was horrible. The narrator doesn't know ask the right questions, and when he speaks he sounds like a layman that decided to grab a camcorder for his weekend project. Does anyone know if a good contemporary documentary on Indian life?

  • fuk white people this is what theyve done to a good country and people......

  • @mellyvel1 Please, don't fuck all white people - just that who really were or still are that bad ones. Our country also suffered so much bad things from Staļins but we don't blame all russians... And believe me I do care about your people , your wonderful nation. I try to find out more and more so I can tell to my pupils something else than is written in history books. So they can understand things from other side and see what a great people you were and still are...

  • Stop wearing dispair & defeat as a badge of honor ...

  • im fullblood indian and chances are all of us indians are victims of the white man even in 2010. not just in 1489 or in the 1980s. it doesnt matter where we live, we r all messed up in some way. i lived in a mostly white area and i was very screwed up as a kid. so it isnt just the reservation and urban areas its everywhere else too. American Indians need to live together and take care of each other. PRIDE is key. It's the ONLY way.

  • @JSornon1 understand you,but thier are so many Good ppl in the world. im sorry that you had a messed up childhood. i stay in the south. and there is alot of racism towards my family and mexcans, ect ( havent seen any indians :( but i feel that indains are not the only victims, we should all cometogether and be as one and help each other out. buy the way im african american but my grandma is native american. so i understand. good luck

  • ThnXXX 4sharing!

  • They cater to new arriving people to other countrys but they can cater to there own neighbors!

What happen to "in god we trust?"

They give all the benefits to Koreans and asians but not the original Royals!!!(natives)!

  • Nice work. Touching!!!

  • this is a good documentory, sadly the stats are probably still the same today as in 1980...running water, bathrooms, elder care???

  • @dovevabear so true there are people on reservation still with no running water and electricity!

  • our family in fourcorners area (begays, lorraine, lucas, walcus etc.)not long ago got a bathroom, running water.we need more attention payed to what's going on in our own backyard(sovereign nations)before we try and save the world, shame on our leaders for failing to honor all treaties made with tribes&creating policies that have contributed to deplorable 3rd world iving conditions HERE,we need to post the truth about what is really happening on reservations be our own news and story tellers

  • "So heartbreaking and angering as well. I feel so helpless and so sad."

  • I don't think the reporter was that condescending. He was in an enviroment that has many problems that are foriegn to most people in America. So many bad things stood out to him so he responded to them in his own way. How else do you expect someone who isn't from that enviroment to respond to it?

  • As far as solutions look up this video:

Major Government Mistakes: Part 2 of 6

  • Say thank you white men for the fire water.

  • The reporter is very irritating and condescending. My hat's off to these people for putting up with him.

  • you're right,

his voice is very annoying, he sounds like hell

  • I want to find out what Tribe my great grandmother was from.

  • the interviewer was an asshole!

  • im saying this was 1980 do they still live this way? is about to be 2010. and why isnt the goverment helping out??

  • It seems shocking now but then you realize that 1980 was less than 15 years past the time when the government used to forcibly take Native kids away from their parents & indoctrinate them far away from home. They lost their own culture & language & returned feeling as strangers among their own families. I wonder if Joe was part of that generation?

  • Is there something I could do to help our Native Americans that are struggling? :-(

I would love to hear from the people on the reservations

  • That water used to be clean and drinkable.

  • holy shit indian tacos are good

  • I love that price (@ 0:36) lol. These days it would run you like 7 bucks

  • NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE ASSOCIATION gives stoves to cook and heat the room for Native People in SD.

  • from an East Indian, "What are you going to do when its going to snow"

    old Indian(True American): Freeze

    Respect & Love,

  • i did and i dont blame other races for what happened to my people

i blame all races including ourselves

im not gonna dump my problems on others

yes i realized settlers came over 300 years ago and fucked stuff up...yes i realize, even in this modern day the shitty reservations we live on arent being taking care of and yes i realize they wanted us to assimilate

but i also realize its not a "races" fault its the governments which is made up of all races and religions

  • @yogurtpimp not only did whites want us to assimilate but it happened to some of us, i was one of them it happened to.

  • @JSornon1

    i know

    i didnt say it didnt

  • oh well i cant support that and im native american

  • are you talking about the guy with the camera

  • 5:10 haha classic "what are you gonna do when it starts to snow?

    indian: Freeze"

  • 1.50??? wow!

  • its also the same with the abotriginies in australia .....extreme poverty and alcoholism

  • Sad their only showing the surface of the affects we as a red nation suffer due to; oppression, poverty and alcoholism.everything you see here is only a veneer of something developed thru a gov't,> that is opposed to this Continents original inhabitants.

  • It is crystal clear that they use drugs and alcohol in our communities to hold us down, whether we are black or native american.

  • or any other race for that matter...

its put out there on purpose

  • I always wanted to know about Native Americans, and this gave me great insight thanks!

  • I hope that Joe Killsright and the others managed to sort themselves out. I would really love to know how things turned out. The big city didnt offer the opportunities he and his companions were seeking; but I hope he managed to find some semblence of peace once he was back home with his family...

  • If the white man really feels sorry and does'nt want our people to suffer anymore. They should get off their lazy white butts and do something about it in DC. This is so sad. If they can help people in Iraq, then they can help the real true americans.Casino's and tax cuts on cigs. Give me a break!! Obama better go by his word about helping our tribes and not using us for his polical purposes.

  • Obama is not going to help. Because he is their puppet.

  • @brownangeleyes1972 do you really think that they are helping ppl in iraq!!???? they are not. the goverment are killing those people. the goverment does not help people. the goverment kills people. america started with killing native americans and bringing slaves over here. wat cuntry do we live in??? and you are right. i voted for obama and hiss ass better do something about that

  • Sorry to hear about the deaths. I want to say that it is true we need to help each other - there are ways in the administration to improve things, BUT WE NEED PEOPLE TO DO RIGHT BY US. These days ppl are out for their own. thx for posting this reality.

  • he will fine God he mother is a Christ beliver

We can do all thing though Chist that strangth us.

  • They filmed this at my Grandma's Crib...

Seeing this made me burst into tears....

  • OMG That is my family...RIP Grandma and Grandpa Kills Right xoxo

  • wat happened to joe? how are all ya'll doing now? it's sad that the rez is in such bad condition. After i finish nursing, i plan to move to south dakota to work close to one of the rez's. not lakota tho-cherokee/blackfeet.

  • please tell me where Blackfeet and Cherokees reside together in South Dakota it would be something new to me. And also something i could share. i thought the Cherokee were in Oklahoma and the Blackfeet were in Montana. but who knows now i guess... LOL

  • WHAT Happened to Joe Killsright??? I have been searching every way I can to find out! I emailed the man that made this documentary, which was filmed 28 yrs ago.. I can't believe its been 28 yrs!

  • @PrincessRunAMuck The only Joe Killsright I've found on Google is the one that was killed in the AIM...:S

  • holly!!! ndn taco and pop for $1.75????? damn!

  • my rez was once like this, but now they have a casino, and other companys for people to be employed, now the problem is embezzlement, who ever is chairman usally steals money, then gives out social impact payments to keep everyone quiet! i guess it seems to work because they are still doing it! but i dont give a shit, i dont live on that fuckin rez nomore! as long as i get my money, right!

  • need to go and stop that before it get really bad. For most or some tribes sign over there land to set up casino for collateral. If you can't manage your business or people they'll take it away. Money isn't everything your culture, beliefs, and tradition is what makes U and people. Take Care From a native

  • Is it as bad as this now? Or has it improved?

  • its improved but in some reservations its still like this.

  • to think that people were living like that in 1980 just shows how the US goverment should not go around saying other conties are bad
