I don't use blenders texture painting mod (i use a program called 3D Coat for that). To update the textures quickly in blender just save the texture from Photoshop, hover your mouse over the UV/Image editor panel in Blendr and press ALT-R to reload the texture. Hope this helps!
I am very inspired by your skills. I would like to see myself doing stuff like this in a year or two. I am going to univeristy on Computer Arts course next year. I would like to have a better start. Could you be so kind and maybe give me some advice for good tutorials and/or lessons? Free if possible. I am poor, it sucks.
@1038892 One of two ways, either use the select tool/eraser to delete the background or make a selection around the bit you want, and then go to select>save selection to save it into the alpha channel of your PSD. Now when you save the image as a PSD, TIFF, PNG or any other format that supports alpha, it will store the transparent part of your image. Now just go into your modelling program and make sure that the faces are set to recieve alpha info.
Ok, i'll be sure to do more voice overs in future with these character texture examples. Maybe i'll go over palletes and brushes briefly too. I'll do the next video in Max or Maya, the same techniques apply for all software really.
@Poskusin Thanks for your comment, I'll definately be doing more tutorials/time lapses. Just wondering, would any text/voice overs explaining whats going on be helpful (similar to my metal painting timelapse)? Your welcome!
@Gilesruscoe Yes, the voice overs made the metal texture tutorial much more enjoyable. The music on this was hillarious and went perfectly. I had trouble with the texturing tutorials only because I'm still trying to learn the basics of photoshop (select proper palletes, brushes/tools, ect). Does 3DS Max allow you to quickly switch back and forth between it and photoshop like you've done in (blender?)
Is 3d coat free?

Hey Giles, are you using the built-in "Texture Paint"? How did you paint your models on Photoshop and update it on Blender at the same time?

@Gilesruscoe Works great! Makes it a little less of a pain for me to make textures now, hehe (I'm new to 3d modeling). Thanks a bunch, Giles!

@Foqerman My biggest suggestion to you is to go on polycount forums (google it) and post up your work and get critiques.

@Gilesruscoe thank you, I have checked it out, really great forum!

how did you mirror on the x-axe the model in blender?
dae67 8 months ago
@dae67 On the modifier list in blender, select mirror. Then on the mirror modifier select "x axis".
Heres a pic explaining: dl(dot)dropbox(dot)com/u/14324914/mirror.jpg
replace (dot)'s with actual .'s

Ok thanks I've never used alpha channels before in maya but I'll give it a go.
I got this link from polycount where I'm n88tr over there
love your work. gonna try to do a mechanical low poly sometime today, i think high poly and normal mapping is a bit overwhelming for me

If you did more of these I would subscribe in a heartbeat. This is exactly what I need to learn how the texturing process is done. Thanks so much!
