I love Dave's absolute understanding of the music as a whole and not just the guitar. I suppose that comes with years of 'hearing' the music. I would imagine it gives a far better comprehension of what is expected and what is possible from a variety of sounds. So Gilmour playing drums means he can hear the guitar as an outsider. i think dave has proven that pink floyd could have gone on just fine without nick. look at on an island. great album with no nick. look at the division bell, garry wallluce on drums as well. a momentary laps of reason saw dave doing most drums too with little nick.
