DMT (which can be extracted from plants) occurs naturally in your brain, it's in your penile gland in your brain which is also known to be the chakra center. DMT even in the highest doses can't affect your physical state. What "might" be harmful is synthetic DMT which works in the same way through harsh chemicals. You can't get stuck in psychosis (which is the medical term for a forever lasting trip) with even synthetic DMT. I've been studying this.

My opinion is that living things are a sophisticated form of antenna. It's not that absolute. McKenna isn't saying you NEED drugs, but that they can be a great benefit. The "good drugs" are beneficial for mental growth, just as studying philosophy and the like can be. In his and many others' opinion, including that of the late Steve Jobs, the world would be a better place if more people had done the "good drugs".

My perception is that psychedelics are a tool to open the door, but once the door is open one should not be attached to psychedelics. As taught in Buddhism, attachment is suffering. The present moment is infinitely unfolding and we cannot hold on to one aspect of it. Impermanence and the transfer of energy always prevails. Terrance died of brain cancer I understand. Did his attachment to pschedelics play a role in the rapid decompsure of his brain ?

I'd bet that the long term affects of psychedelics on an individuals brain differ to the individual. Some are probably not affected long term whatsoever where others get lost in delusion or mental illness. I imagine it depends on ones psychological state to begin with.

Most schizophrenics have auditory hallucinations and they strongly feel as though the voices they hear are coming from outside their own mind. So your belief that that your trips represent some objective alternate reality is suspect. You are not the best judge. Some drugs in low doses are not harmful, the inventor of LSD took small doses and suffered no harm. Large doses cause real harm.

My opinion is that living things are a sophisticated form of antenna. Drugs just change the type of thing we're tuning into, and sometimes drugs just scramble any ability to make anything seem coherent at all. My perception is that psychedelics are a tool to open the door, but once the door is open one should not be attached to psychedelics. As taught in Buddhism, attachment is suffering. The present moment is infinitely unfolding and we cannot hold on to one aspect of it. Impermanence and the transfer of energy always prevails. Terrance died of brain cancer I understand. Did his attachment to pschedelics play a role in the rapid decompsure of his brain ?

I'd bet that the long term affects of psychedelics on an individuals brain differ to the individual. Some are probably not affected long term whatsoever where others get lost in delusion or mental illness. I imagine it depends on ones psychological state to begin with.

Most schizophrenics have auditory hallucinations and they strongly feel as though the voices they hear are coming from outside their own mind. So your belief that that your trips represent some objective alternate reality is suspect. You are not the best judge. The DNA code is certainly there, the mRNA is certainly there at times, but it is EXTREMELY difficult to confirm the presence of such a transient chemical as DMT in such a non-removable, indissociable organ as the brain.
