  • i was considering watching this series and i was wondering if there were just australians in this series or if there are new zealanders too

  • Its shameful that two people such as yourself would be fighting like this on a video about such a delicate subject. Little sickening if I am honest. You are both as bad as eachother... This is a good scene and well done for its time!

  • Anzacs. Heroes one, heroes all. The services that you have performed to the Commonwealth will never, ever be forgotten.

  • fucking germans

  • @D87pnoy you fascist

  • Actually australians were british colonists who migrated to the island for new imperialism. Australia was actually first used as a british prison before the colonists decided to move over. It was an ideal location to keep prisoners because there was no escape from the island. So in the end australians are just british descendants and they only call themselves different. The real australians are the natives already on the island.

  • @jpawn67 actually my decendants werent british, they were irish, and just because my decendants were from another country, doesnt mean i am not a real australian, douchebag

  • @jpawn67 actualy ever ones a migrant at some stage. they say that every one migrated from africa tens of thousands of years ago.

  • ddid youse know that more than 1000 russians were in gallipoli and more through out the war pretty amazing that full blooded russians wanted to fight under the Australian flag respect to the russian comrades

  • can i find this in better quality?

  • all men are brothers,

sooner or later u meet a enemy who look exactly like u n then what do u do.

  • anzacs are some of the best troops in the world. we dont have a huge army but we have a highly trained army.

  • this is ww2 right?

  • @bloodshot16 No its WW1!

  • @bloodshot16 WWI mate

  • First of all they were fucking idiots to fight in a war which wasn't theirs.

  • @Smalbop You mean the ANZACS? we had to fight because we where still part of the english commenwealth. We where not idiots!

  • @MrSlroyboy

Every single soldier of the ANZAC was a volunteer. No one "had to" fight in WW1.

  • @Smalbop I meant Australia, we where part of the commenwealth we had to protect our mother country. If you have different opinions on the matter then so be it.

  • @Smalbop lol I say you're an ignorant twat to say such a thing. Australia joined the war freely in support of mother britain. Being the fact that most australians were british themselves and was part of the british dominion more commonly known as the commonwealth realms. Same story with new zealand and canada mate.

  • @matt2house

The "Motherland" wasn't threatened at all. And the fact that all the ANZACs were volunteers and no one was forced to join the war in Europe remains a fact, no matter what you think you "know" about history or politics and no matter what you call me. :-)

  • @Smalbop "And the fact that all the ANZACs were volunteers and no one was forced to join the war in Europe remains a fact"

dont u mean it remains a fallacy

the treaty of london is the reason why the "the motherland" joined the war. And it's been an old treaty since 1839. And australia gained their independence from britain in 1901 but still felt connected to britain and therefore they supported them . It's not what I think I know...it's what I do know...not as ignorant as some on here :-)

  • No, I meant that no one of them was forced. Maybe they still felt connected to Britain but, as you said, this was just a feeling - and not a duty. So far for fallacies. And such old treaties, you know: Britains remembered them as long as they fitted into their concept of worldwide hegemony. WW1 was not in favour of Belgium but in favour of the Empire's economy and science which was about to be left behind by Germany.

  • @Smalbop Australia was part of the british dominion and the germans caught up with the science again to rebuild and reshape their military system right through the 1930s and through ww2.

  • /watch?v=G-gmv17urnk for full anzac ep 1

  • aussie schools are that shit we only learn about anzacs for 1 week of the year in april and it is exactly the same every year galipoli simpson and his donkey which one of my teaches thought galipoli was normandy when she said galipoli campiagn was in that movie saving private ryan i put here in here place this series should be played to every school hell its fucking shameful especially when our aussie kids think america saved us and we did nothing because they say some bullshit hollywood movi

  • @Henza9218 maybe we should learn more english spelling and comprehension in school?

  • @camhiggins1 dude i have a bit of dislexia history is more important any way

  • Quality....thanks for bringing this back after so many years.

  • 'Couldn't leave ya hangin' there, you haven't paid me for that luger yet'...LOL the Aussie way...even in adversity...humour is never lost...we can find jokes in all situations especially the tough ones, which is why we don't give a fuck what anyone thinks. this quality with the ANZACS then is the same as NOW, the only problem is that now political correctness has taken over so it's now getting watered

    down.

  • @repitorio

ANZAC legacy is being watered down you mean? If so I know what you mean. It is the same here in Canada. The feats of the Canadian Corps (similar to those of the Australian Corps) are largely forgotten. We learned next to nothing about it in school. American and British history and Canadian politics. Whoopee. There is nothing wrong with abhorring violence - every sane individual does - but if we do not know history we WILL repeat it. Plus WWI was THE event which built both nations.

  • @repitorio. ANZACs; f***king oustanding soldiers in two World Wars and still today - canucks too. ...and an excellent demo of some superb small unit tactics. Unfortunately, I think all the Commonwealth forces are slowly being written out of both world wars (Brit's too) - mainly because of our 'Socialist' school carriculums and Hollywoods depiction of WW2 being soley a US effort. Someone needs to make a historically accurate big budget blockbuster of El Alamien, or Jacksons Dam-Busters remake.

  • I've got to say the Australians have certainly changed since 1917-18.Now when I walk around western Sydney it seems somehow that the Australians have transformed, like Micheal Jackson, and now appear to be brown and black and yellow and it makes me wonder if the Anzacs would have more in common with the Germans they were fighting the the Australians of today.

  • Proud to be Aussie and greetings to our fellow Turks

  • thatnx mate were there for the empire

  • i respect the australians and the kiwis that faught in ww1 because the made our world peaceful

  • they would warn each other about attacks

  • All these years later this series is still great. Paul Hogans best movie role.

  • Turkey troops fought fearlessly in çanakkale. this flmler sided and ridiculous. enemy forces retreated like a coward dog Long live fully independent turkey.

  • The troops at Gallipoli werent fighting for Turkey but for the ottoman Empire. It is only because of the defeat of the Ottomans in ww1 that Kemal Attaturk comes to prominance. Attaturk's excellence in the 1920s Suez Crisis gave you your independance.

Your views on hisory are laughable.

Also this clip is in Europe.

The Scenes in Gallipoli are not about the politics of the war but about the experience of soldiers who get caught up in war.

  • As for cowardness. The Ottoman-Turk's peformance in the rest of the war does a pretty good job.

Your armies broke time and time again, mass surrenders by Turkish troops were common from late 1916.

Your forces retreat to the Syrian Border and were bracing for an invasion of anatolia when the Ottoman Regime surrenders.

  • fp470 you clearly dont know nothing about Turkish soldiers they killed the crap out of your well equipped soldiers and helped the surrendered enemies and healed them.I dont know whatever you read about Turks but surely you read it half wrong .Turkish soldiers did not surrender! The cowards were the biritish and the street dogs coming before them.those coward british pushed anzacs forth so they wont get shot ...

If you want to learn something read what the british commanders said about the war.

  • The Ottoman_Turk Soliders were average soldiers, some good some bad. The Ottoman Empire had extreme problems training and fielding an army. I never said they did not help wounded persons they capture. However there were numerous examples of mass surrenders by the Ottoman forces in the Sinai, Palestine, Iraq, trans-Jordan. At Gallipoli being on the defensive there was less chance for capture and surrender.

The British, French and Anzacs as well as Ottomans were quiet brave all round.

  • @looktoward

Turks won at gallipoli because the Imperial Forces landed at the wrong beach, had the operation gone accordingly, the campaign would not have lasted long. In terms of gallipoli, you'll find that the Turks actually lost more soldiers to the Australians & Billy Singh bested the Turkish #1 Sniper. Also, I think its worth noting that the 800 Light Horse obliterated Turkish lines at Jerusalem.

So in terms of training, yes Turks were on a lower level.

  • @DivineHardOn no dont give me excuses if so caled imperial forces landed in Gallipoli then if they were the so called strongest army of that time how come they could not defeat bunch of soldiers these are lies these are the lies of British that has been taught to world since a long time. well if we wrote how many british and australian #1s we eliminated it would make a book so you kill once in 500 years and write it everywhere you can. you exterminated alot of people and you dont say anyofthem

  • @DivineHardOn about the retreat in Jerusalem British was defeated twice by the outnumbered and outgunned Ottoman soldiers then after those defeats British attacked for a third time with an amount around 100000 against less than 20000 Turkish soldiers and they retreated while fighting they did not surrender nor got crushed and British established israel in there and that is the current trouble in the middle east. Now you British have messed the world up but it will all turn back at you one day

  • @looktoward Well do you not look stupid for your misinformation. The army that landed at Gallipoli was not thw world strongest army and never claimed to be. The three divisions that land at Gallipoli were; understrenght, poorly trained and poorly equippped. The Ottoman forces had amble warning of the coming attack for just over a month and LIman Von Saunders prepared death trap defences and actually just outnumbered the attacking forces. It was a failed operation from the outset

  • @fp470 of course Turks knew that British was coming but before British landed they heavily bombarded the shore for days.brtisih bombarded so heavily that around 4000 misiles landed per square so if you compare these thosedeath traps are nothing.in themiddle east british army made 11000 Turkish hostages blind and Turks healed any enemy soldier they found laying injured. there was an Australian captain he was saved by a Turkish soldier after the battle he became a governor and he thanked Turks.

  • @looktoward The bombardment was reported to have had minimal affects on the Ottoman positions and at Cape Helles the bombardment was very light. They were not the best equipped army, I do not know why you think that. Treatement of prisoners was always good by the Ottomans compared to others, true!.

  • @looktoward ....artillery advantage and a superiorituy in heavy machine guns ground 2nd Gaza to a standstill. The British frontal attack on Gaza in the 3rd Battle was held up by the Yilderim's defence of the town. The Ottomans were good soldiers too but the Germans gave them a number of very dangrous weapon advantage, the British had more supplies to sustain an attack though-but the desert meant that this advantage was moot.

  • @looktoward This is my question to you @looktoward, do you think that British Success was entirely down to outnumbering the Ottomans or was it because the British under a new Commander devised a better plan?

Keep in mind Ottoman Artillery advantage

The fact an attack can only operate for one day due to theirst

and that the Ottomans had reinforcements because their defensive features were sufficenitly manned?

  • @fp470 1-Ottomans were less and poorer in terms of equipment but had artillery and British was better equipped and outnumbered the enemy and they had artillery in their positions too. 1st and 2nd batlles were won by the Ottomans but the 3rd batlle was ended with the Ottoman soldiers retreating and British won. Outnumbering was surely a crucial fact but not the only reason of victory you had a good commander and unfortunately the Ottoman army was not commanded by an Ottoman commander.

  • @looktoward The Ottomans in the 1st Battle lost the fight but won the battle because the British could not occupy the position. Many Ottoman units had fled and were defeated. After the British withdrew they just re-occupied the positions and improve them. THe Ottomans in 2nd Battle won because they outgunned the British and the British Plan was bad. In the third Battle was a deciviseve British victory based on the command. Von Kressenstein was a good General do not disrespect him

  • @fp470 the Germans affected the Turkish plans and made them attack as they wanted (like the bombardment of Odessa) because some of their generals controlled some Turkish armies.British retreated because they gave heavy losses too. The British were repelled there was a fight but Turks didnt lose it. They were ordered to be pulled back becasue the enemy was too much in number. I didnt insult him but since it is a defeat in the end he had to be accused at some point.

  • @looktoward The British did not withdraw at Gaza 1 due to heavy losses. At Gaza 2 they did. At Gaza 1 the British won all the tactical engagments they entered into, but had no way of occupying the position. Kressenstein then ordered counter attacks in the night which demoralised the British forces greatly as they fell back to the Wadi Ghuzze.

    How about a new debate?

What do you think about Von Kressensteing Defence of Gaza in 2nd Battle of Gaza?

  • @fp470 as a result of counterattacks British couldnt occupy so they were forded to retreat. They didnt want to give heavy losses. VonKressensteing wasnt bad he had emplaced machine gunners and positioned soldiers he intended to resist them he tried to defend it well but looks like Edmund Allenby had better tactics and surely more soldiers. I had an Australian English teacher he was a trained soldier before he said that British conscrpted Australians to fight.

  • @looktoward Britain never conscripted australian soldiers to fight. Australia joined in the war voluntarily.

  • @fp470 if you notice in the Ottoman army only Turks were fighting with a few Germans (neglecting the artillery since artillery doesnt work in melee combat.) and with a possiblty of a few Arabs joining them.In the British army Britsh, Australians, and New Zellandian soldiers were fighting together this increased the number of soldiers in British army. British sent them mostly before the actual British soldiers what do you think.

  • @looktoward The artillery and German machine guns DOmatter alot. For the most part the British did not have as large guns as German's at Gaza and at 2. Battle of Gaza this proved a massive problem. The hand to hand fighting was not as prominent along the whole line. Also the British and colonial forces would fight at same time, only some British volunteer units were sent in last because they were reserve. Also Australia never had conscription but we volunteered. Allenby probably was better

  • @fp470 Generals have great effect on battlefield but the first two wars were a victory of Ottoman soldiers with a small effect of general. The third war was lost because British was better improved there was a matter of tactics too.the result is clear 3 battles were fought Ottoman heroicly won the first two and the thrid battle was lost. This meant that Ottomans retreated. What is the result . British is not stupid to take Jerusalem and pull others` attention over there. So they put israel there.

  • Comment removed

  • @looktoward The Ottoman forces were turned back time and time again. The only time they managed to hold their ground was 2nd Battle of Gaza with help from the Yilderim and Pasha II group of German troops and German trained troops. You are attempting to conflate two very different phases of the Meditaranian theatre- do not do this it make you look foolish. The Allenby army and the army under Hamilton are miles apart in terms of ability, equpiment and composition.

  • @fp470 you are the foolish and the stupid here information you give is half wrong in 1st and 2nd battles of Gaza britsh retreated even so they had the better equipped and bigger army dont give the succes to germans helped us but Tukish soldiers fought more if you want to know about our experiences go and search history if you are interested in history you must know that military experience is trasnferred from generation to generation in a nation.

Dont insult if you want a fair argument.

  • @looktoward I never said 1st and 2nd battle of Gaza were a success. Now I said in relation to Gallipoli/Cannakale campaign British were poorly equipped (Hamilton Army), but in Egypt& Palestine British army was better equipped to a point. THe 1st battle of Gaza was a tactical success but the victory could not be held, despite British forces actually entereing the town, the commanders still ordered the occupation/attack broken off due inability to hold.

  • @looktoward The 2nd battle was a complete failure, I agree. What i content is that at the 1st Gaza the Ottoman and British forces were roughly equal, the British did outnumber but not significantly. THe battle was a near success and the Ottoman position was routed, but there was no way to exploit the gain and occupy the town despite British forces being in the town.

  • @looktoward At the Battle of Gaza, 1,2 +3 (Beersheba) the Ottomans were outnumbered but there are things to remember.

    1. In 2nd and 3rd BattlesOttomans were heavily dug in, with redoubts, some barbed wire and trenches.

    2. The Ottomans thought they had enough men in their line to allow a whole cavalry division to stay in reserve as well as many Ottoman infantry brigades, to reinforce weak points.

    3. The Germans gave the Ottomans one massive advantage- artillery advantage....

  • what did you say??

  • A saga took in ÇANAKKALE TURKS SUMMER. FILMS AND THIS PARTY WAS A DOG AS ENEMY FORCES PULLING were cowards. MOST PEOPLE LIVING IN TURKEY

  • aul Mick Dundee kicken ass!

  • and also el alamein

  • they need to remake these movies bad.....

  • this show was a hit in Peru

  • Ohh Sorry Chickens Try again Please Cuz Im waiting to 3. World War Comeon come here try

  • can't think of anything worth fighting for in Turkey.I do want to find the johnny Turk who hacked into my email account and punch him in the face, but apart from that nothing-even your football teams are crap

  • @helmethead72 - They were fighting to captures the Dardanelles, and thus have a shipping line to Russia so that they could supply Russia and help them in the war effort. It was also a diversion from the Western Front, which had long since ground into a stalemate.

  • @helmethead72 When i went to i saw where they fought from and it was fucken hard arse country and hats off to both sides a stupid war fought bravely on both sides.

when we were there galatasry beat liverpool i think it was oh how did we celabrate 2001 i think

Johny turk and i and my kiwi mate drank that night away ANZACS live on

  • For anyone having a go at the french give it a rest. They died just as beautifully as the men of any other nation in the name of......? At least they had the sense to mutiny in 1917, refusing the prevailing officer code that headbutting machine guns was the path to victory.

  • @patyboomba - Sense to mutiny? Are you joking? That wasn't sense at all. Alot were shot for it. If they had any sense at all they would have kept fighting and died with honour.

  • You are an idiot. They were given much better conditions because of the mutiny.

So dying in sensless droves would of been sooooo much better. People who think like you do, in an old, out of date, archaic sense of the honor abd beauty of war appall me.

  • there is no honour in war

  • germans faced the aussies again in the second world war....at tobruk

  • And Greece and Crete

  • really sad ending

  • Its this image of the Great War that we never see. Why do we think its trench ladders and machine guns mowing down infantry between 1914-18 when in 1916 these style attacks became the norm?

But alas we will explain this away as the Aussies being intrisnically better soldiers despite everything about them in this scene is due to the British mililtiary system; weapons, training, company size, iniative reward, etc.

Oh and same for Canadians, Rhodesians, South Africans and of course UK forces.

  • So true, all the other Commonwealth Forces inc. the UK did well also, simply through desperation. They had to show initiative just to finish the whole bloody show. They had enough. The Americans where enthusiastic because they where new.

  • you cant hand out heroics fuck knuckle can you go over the top NO have a cup of cement and harden up

  • fp470 i respect the krauts but not the cowardly nations ie italy and france hopless

their not men in my books

  • What are you trying to say. I cant interpret your statment very well. Also no nation was intrinciscally cowardly, France suffered with the same stoic attitude as the rest of the nations. If your trying to say I thini the Aussies are good because they are Australian I am not saying that.

  • no im saying the anzacs were good because we only had 5 % of the allies and took 20% of the land and were known as tough soldeirs aswell as the candians

  • fuck were good fighters but with that many metros we are piss weakpeople compared back then lol could u imagaine metros wearing pink camo because of the fasion and afraid of getting muddy since saying that are soleiders are tough as nails i just had metros

  • Donno54, are you proud of calling German people by a derogatory term? If you are then I'm not sure what kind of hatred you must bear for Germans, but it greatly disturbs me.

  • i think Donno54 is just referring to the Germans as they were referred to throughout this series and throughout the war, doesn't mean there is any hatred

  • wow what prog is this? it should be shown i nthe UK good ol Aussies ,the jerries mustve hated the lot of u

  • The Germans hated fighting the Australians but for the most part they respected them. If the German did not respect the Digger he was in for a bad surprise - or at least a worse surprise. I respect all Australians and Kiwis.

  • @Number7smokesForEver

all nationals fighting against ANAZACs always said that they have a lot of respect for how hard and honorable they fought

  • @Number7smokesForEver what the hell are kiwis? i think you dont mean the fruit and also not the bird so witch faction are kiwis o.0? tell me please its interesting

  • @The84eRegiment

    Kiwi's are New Zealanders.

  • Australians are fucking LEGENDS ! I am a Brit saying that. ANYAussi person reading this, have a fucking great day !! Seriously!

  • I agree!!

  • thanks :)

  • @LegendOfJomtein Thanx mate!

  • @LegendOfJomtein Cheers geeza contray to what some think we don't hate the poms. We just love hating the poms or the kiwis for that matter as you guys take as it is intended. in good nature.

  • Does anybidy know the name of this serie?

  • just called ANZAC's

  • No, it's a TV mini-series made in the 80s.

  • if u say so mate

  • it is a mini series..and was only converted into a movie later on..the movie has a lot cut out of it and is sold overseas

  • if its sent over seas nothin shoulda been cut they shoulda put more into it

  • respect

  • this was a brilliant series. we could never understand why it wasn't repeated more in England. It hasn;t aged at all. Well recommended with some up and coming aussie stars.

  • This looks like a good series. Where can I find it online?
