My husband is cambodian and I'm going to try to make this for me. Usually when his family make it they put coconut soda but I don't really like it sweet is your's sweet also?? do cambodian people make the broth one that isn't sweet usually??
Out of all the recipe videos Ive watched on this, I chose yours, and it was praised!! Its not the typical spicy one that my parents make, but now the kids can enjoy this non spicy recipe, thanks!!~
Thanks so much for showing this video. I've been wondering how Ya-hon looks like..lolz....all I know is hot-pot (sabu-sabu). Now I know how it looks like and how to make them too..Thanks so much for sharing this video. Keep up good work.
@conansgrandpa Hi! Thank you so much for your comment. I'm sorry, but I do not know the brand and size. You can get any skillet out there to use whether it's the gas version or electric version.
Don't you put lime in it? I see my brother in law make it he always add lime butt then again he str8 from cambo so Myb they do it different there? If at all
@rasni401 I think the lime he's putting is for the sourness (I know...creating my own word...hehe!) and that's where the tamarind base comes in. Lately though, I've been substituting the tamarind base for tom yum paste.
o wow, that's all the ingredients for the broth? i would think it would be more i guess everyone makes it different, looks good! now i'm craving it! :)
@mizpuppet Hi paowne srey! Though I love tha khoun, it's illegal to sell it here in GA and so we're always trying to get it from Florida or grow our own.
@MelissaMongo Hi! We don't have this brand in our stores either anymore and I've tried others that tastes just as good. It doesn't matter what brand...just get the Asian BBQ Sauce and it should work.
Good shit!!! I've been trying to learn how to make this since like forever. My mom never make this anymore. But isn't there "pahok" in "ya-hon"?? That the best about it. That stinky after taste in your mouth while you trying to cool your mouth down from the spicyness. Lol...
ooooh yumm! mouth watery goodness! I'm filipino but my boyfriend is cambodian, and i get excited everytime his parents cook this cuz i love it so bad! yumm.. glad to know how to make it :D thanks!

Now that sounds very good...I can't drink beer, but I know most people like to use coconut soda in their soups such as kaw...i'm going to try that next time...thanks for the tip!

I have tasted a lot of different recipe of Yo-han and by far no one has come close to my recipe or match it.. the only thing our ingredients have in common is the regular sugar and fish sauce, coconut milk and dragonfly bbq sauce.. all the other ingredients you use just look nasty..I would tell you my recipe but I swore to secrecy..dont be jealous, if your lucky..one day i'll let you try it. wink*
I tried your recipe, the tamarind soup base made the soup sour. It didn't taste good like I thought it would. I like how I usually cook mine. Thanks for posting the recipe because I been looking for recipes on cambodian food, since I love to cook cambodian food. However, I haven't found any good recipes yet.
Yes, that was the purpose of the tamarind soup base for my version...to have a sour kick to it as long as you do not overdose it. You're welcome and good luck finding your "good recipes". Please share if you do find some.

I see that you don't like cooking with Kapi? I absolutely hate the smell of Kapi, but I love the flavor it gives. Try less fish sauce, put some Kapi in there, and use palm sugar instead of white sugar. Its more authentic using palm sugar and I think it has a better flavor.
Hi again Trilinguist. Who said that I don't like Kapik? Have you ever watched my somlor curry tutorial? I believe that Kapik goes with certain soups, but this yahon style is my way. I've tasted different types of yahon styles and this is what I had created through my own preference. I totally agree with you on the differences b/t palm sugar and white sugar but as I had stated in my last 2 comments for you (on my other videos), not everybody has a farmer's market down the road from them.
My husband is cambodian and I'm going to try to make this for me. Usually when his family make it they put coconut soda but I don't really like it sweet is your's sweet also?? do cambodian people make the broth one that isn't sweet usually??
