  • Bobby is still amazing here, a few spots were a little sloppy but his sound is big, fat and beautiful, that tenor player is amazing, is the gonna fly now the one you were asked to take down?

  • Favorited because Bobby Shew is amazing. Disliked due to description.

  • wow this is all new to me i had no idea bobby was going through so much allthough it only makes me admire him that much more

  • Awesome jazz trumpeter, but a heart attack waiting to happen. I hope he uses 2011 as a fresh start to get his weight down. It would be sad to lose him too soon.

  • "People" is probably the hardest or one of the hardest Maynard ballads...isn't as high as some of the others, but the phrases are longer and you're up between D's and A's for almost half of it. Bobby did an amazing job on this...even though he's played Maynard tributes, he plays the tunes it his way, and doesn't imitate Maynard that much, so get over it. I took lessons with Bobby back in August and he's doing a lot better than he was before. He's an amazing player and teacher.

  • If you watch any of the videos of recent Bobby Shew, sad to say it's all pretty much like this...He just isn't what he used to be for some reason. He's done a LOT of Maynard tribute stuff, and there's a ton of it on Youtube, and all of it makes me turn my head a little....

  • @heypepper He has dealt with severe weight issues and has emphysema, both of which severely affect the volume and flow of his air. Bobby Shew is one of the finest trumpet players and musicians to have walked this earth, and his declining health is a tragedy. Bobby's playing may be less powerful than it once was, but as a musician and pedagogue, he is more profound in poor health than most players are at their prime.

  • @Mangione665 I don't doubt his prowess of old man believe me. watching and listening to his older recordings he definately had it going on. It's just sad to watch now cause he's not playing, in my ears anyway, up to the level that he used to. I didn't know about the lung illness though so that would explain a lot.

  • p.s. I actually use the marcinkewitz (probably spelled that wrong cause it's not in front of me) Bobby Shew 1.5 model when I do lead/high range gigs on my Bb.

  • I luv how Bobby Shew hit the double high D at the end!!!

  • How many tpt players on earth could manage a nice dubba D after almost folding on an impossible hard chart like this? MF did this kinda thing while touring and/or playing multiple shows a night at Birdland and the like. BS doesn't have road chops, yet can still play it. Plus Bobby's sound is beautiful on this.

  • What happened to Bobby Shew?.

  • Thank you Geoff for post this Video,

I know Bobby by one of his Clinics and he is such a good person!

This Video do inspire me so much, when I will start a Jazz Trumpet Study it will be the influence of Bobby and his play ..... thanx Bobby ..... Mas

  • who's on tenor sax?-beautiful solo.

  • great tenor player

  • I agree, Bobby is one of the greatest jazz musicians in the world today and can play anything from Bunk to Monk and beyond. Beautiful trumpet tone, impeccable taste, lyrical phrasing and swings like mad--what more is there?

  • @punchsboy Bunk to Monk? What is Bunk?

  • @rdangelo Bunk Johnson--Bobby can play the whole history of jazz.

  • @punchsboy gotcha

  • This is amazing playing! That sound is so beautiful.
