The Papin sisters' story is one of those that make me think afterwards. I think these "tributes" that you made are great, not only because of the music (which, by the way, led me to your videos), but because you show the human side of them, not only the criminals that they became. Yes, they committed a terrible crime, but they were human beings after all, and I think we should try to understand why these things happen. Of course not justify their behaviour, but neither turnnig our backs on them.
Why the implication that the Papin sisters were insane.
The Lancelin women had it coming to them. They were vicious exploiters of the worst kind and got their just desserts. How could you force another human being to work 7 days a week, 14 hours a day and not expect retaliatory violence?
The flabby Lancelin women didn't stand a chance against the strong Papin Sisters whom were forced to work grueling 14 hour days/6 days a week/ year in/year out. Hope she got the chance to tell old Mrs Lancelin where to stick her white glove test.
Foucault hired Ranciere to teach at Paris Uni. Ranciere was a Maoist. Maoists trained at Paris Uni were the smart guys that went back to their homeland and killed 1/4 of the population, accompanying their little Stalinist leader - in 'Democratic' Kampuchea. Nice one. They certainly did murder for just about anything - wearing glasses was literally punishable by death.
If you can murder one or two, you can justify murdering a million or more. It is all the same thing.
Certainly others thought so. For more on the murderous intent of Satre's fellow philosophers, Foucault and Ranciere, see in David Macey's The Lives of Michel Foucault the episode re the Gauche Proletarienne's declaration in the Cause du Peuple in 1973 advocating lynching and the murder of the 'bourgeoisie'.
SvetlanaDhampir: err, hagiography and flattery were not a prerequisite for yahoo comments last I noticed. Glorification of murder is just weird. I will admit, however, there is a strong argument, for murder for inflicting the world with bad music as a background to videos.
If Sartre can support inter-class murder, as he did in this case, I guess philosophically it is ok to support murder for just about anything.
thank you, i will search for his "writens" 'cause i most read it. they killed her employee and daughter 'cause they got a paranoic disorder....and i know about "name of the father" and "forclusion", i'm very touched by psychoanalisis terms!:)

The Papin sister were also wrong to stay up their in that room lusting after each other. That is discusting and they could have prayed to God for a husband. When people ignore God and do not seek him they are capable of great evils. You may say well people who know God do great evils. Yes but remeber when they choose to do evil they no longer belong to God and God will not know them. We all must seek the Lord on our own. God says we should study to show our selves approved. Amen

This is a no doubt a terrifying and horrific murder. No one should kill someone else unless it was self defense but even then you should never want to take another life if you can help it. They should have prayed to God for their freedom from the people they worked for. God says call to me when trouble comes and I will save you and you will praise me. The two women they worked for should not have treated any one like lower life forms. They should have all been seeking the Lord. Amen
Is that what they teach you at preschool? Try picking up a copy up Dawkins "The God Delusion" next time you feel the need to expand your feeble mind. Don't come Bible-thumping where you are clearly out of your depth. Why don't you seek the Lord and piss off. Idiot.

There are two movies I know of about this case: "Sister, My Sister" and "Murderous Maids". Both were competent films but "Murderous Maids" is the more true to life. "Sister, My Sister" makes the Papin's employers out to be much less sympathetic than the other movie, and evidence points to the fact that the Papin's employers weren't all THAT bad.
"Tribute" doesn't necessarily connote sympathy or positivity. There are no excuses for their actions, and that's the point; hence the case's psychoanalytical importance. To feign understanding of human behavior, to condemn, to judge, is irrelevant, because it simply does not help. They deserve punishment, but to say they are monsters is just dismissing the problem: why, not how. Furthermore, you cannot compare any situation to another situation; people are not mathematical progressions.
Did you see the picture of the legs of one of the victims? It looked like someone sliced the meat off her legs the way a butcher would slice meat off an animal; not in a frenzied way, but in a very deliberate way. Sick.
Wow, what an interesting but sick story. Guess I can see why this happened, both were mentally ill. Sounds like one die so young! and the other die in 2001? Wow!
very well done.Very well done. .A movie was made based on them called sister my sister...can be found on torrent site...what is the song and who sings it
Well, it is a tribute to the sisters because I feel very affected by their story and quite sad for them. They had a terrible, tragic life- the murder would probably never have happened if Christine had not been very mentally ill and under terrible stress about her unhappy life. It was not a black and white case.

They deserve no "tribute". So what if they had a hard life? Lots of people did and THEY didn't gouge out their employer's eyes, crush their skulls and slice them up with knives. The Papin sisters were monstrous. They have no excuse for their actions, damn their murdering souls.
The reason they DO get tributes is BECAUSE they killed their mistress and her daughter. Some people out there like them because of Christine's insanity and the fact that she DID kill Mme and Mlle Lancelin.
If there are people who like the Papin sisters because they chose to murder their employers, well, I find that very, very sick. Murder is never the answer to anything.
@PlushHoney Thank you for your sensitive reply there. Many people see the word "murder" and immediately saddle the perpetrator(s) with the word "EVIL". I too am fascinated by the Papin Sisters' story. Why did the Lancelin women return to the family home when they were supposed to be elsewhere? What were they hoping to find?
Christine was sentenced to death by the guillotine, which was later commuted to life hard labour in prison. She died of self-inflicted starvation in a mental asylum in 1937. Léa was sentenced to 10 years hard labour and after her release in 1943 she continued to live alone and work as a maid until old age. She died in 2001. Hope that answers your question, OTMAfan!
