dpkg -i google-chrome-beta_current_i386.deb would have installed it for you from the command line. apt-get searches the repos online whereas dpkg will use a local file.
Recordmydesktop recorded everything on screen and saved as an .ogv file. I saved this to my flash drive. Then I rebooted Debian. I converted the ogv to an avi file, did some editing then uploaded it.

You are right. I forgot about dpkg. My command line skills are improving since I switch to debian Lenny on my main machine.
I remembered dpkg a few days after I posted the video. I hoped no one would notice.
