Nintendo Logic: the crate that was used to pull up mario in the room that had shine sprite # 26 and star piece # 71 in it is lighter than the platform that mario stands on to get lifted up to get the grotto's key.The crate is only heavier if you hit the switch in that room, otherwise its lighter. WTF that just dosen't make sense!

Whoa! I just pulled off the same glitch! It looks like you have to be running against the Shine Sprite block and then use Koops' ability. That's how it seems to work.

Technically speaking, they HAVE done the giant bomb idea--or at least something similar. Remember that annoying giant enemy in Super Mario 64 that threw you in all directions, but they also could be thrown if you got behind their backs? Those always looked like giant bombs to me.
