I agree with Olbermann on most instances, but not the one about the second amendment. Either Barack Obama has stated that the gentlemen carrying assult rifles to his rallys...have the right to do so.

The right to bare arms goes and constitutes what were arms then (muskets) and what are arms now (handguns and assult rifles). I would rather have a long distant arguement with a person with a hand gun, then a cannon. That is just me though.

At the 3 minute mark Olbermann talks about the right to bear arms in the 18th century. So following his "logic" the second amendment only applies to those weapons that were around in the 18th century and not today. I guess the 1st amendment only applies to what is said verbally and from printing presses. Television, radio and the internet are not then covered by the 1st amendment. Right Keith?

Come on now.. even you should be able to look a litte deeper into Olbermann's comment; the main issue is the idea of a "militia", whose primary purpose is the defense of the state and the people. "Personal" handguns are used by "individuals", not organized military groups! Often, these guns are used in illegal organizations such as gangs or for personal defense. Therefore, it was not an appropriate desicion for the Justice and his collegues to remove the restriction on handguns...

as individual handguns do not contribute to a larger state security force (or militia). You have to make the important connection that although indivduals are allowed to bear arms, it must be in contribution to a larger and legal military organization, otherwise it is subject to various restrictions (such as needing to be locked up). However, Justice Scalia has not made this important observation and as a result has removed a law that didn't really need to be removed...

I agree with you on this. It is obsession with BO. My favorite part of the criticism is that BO has said he is not objective about CEO of GE. KO blast BO for that, but will not admit that he (KO) is not objective about anything!

Also, KO blasts Hannity for disagreeing with CEO of FNC (his boss), but KO falls lock-step behind CEO of NBC to support. Hannity is showing character to disagree with boss; KO is not.

BUT... the 2nd amendment is the right of all people, the DC gun ban is meant to stop poor black people from having hand guns in the home. Everyone knows you can NOT use a long rifle in a small cramped apartment as well as you can use a pistol. Why do you think cops draw pistols before entering an apartment. The street criminals use stolen guns and don't obey gun laws anyways. The ban hurts honest people.
