Well I've never thought of that before but once when I couldn't get one off I took my huge pliers and pinched the crap out of it and pulled down and then it came off
Lol nice method. Great job Briggs and Stratton! I had a much easier time removing the original oil filter off my tractor's Kohler V-Twin when I changed the oil. It was on there a little tighter than I thought it would be but I was able to get it off with my bare hands. No idea why Briggs insists on using a machine to put an oil filter on their engines. That's one of the reasons I like Kohler better.
I thought you were going to say wrap the rag around the filter and then put the oil filter wrench on. But, that thing was damn tight. The tool would have just bent.
I had the same problem with my KOHLER a few years ago. Trying to remove the original oil filter, I ended up ruining the oil filter adapter as well. that screwdriver trick didn't even work, it just tore through the filter until there was nothing left but the threaded end cap which I had to use an air chisel to remove. Major P.I.T.A.
LOL Nice method. Gotta do what you gotta do. I've came close to having to do that same thing on vehicles before but you just keep trying and eventually they go.
