He used to come with the treat idea and when I took the treat away he didnt bother.

now if you can train a cat not to eat a live hampster...then I can listen to you.....btw I train my cat to "cum" by tapping my hand on the ground. no treats...just petting afterwards...unless you use a treat every time or almost everytime,...the cat will pick up that you dont have a teat and will start to not come...because theres no treat. teaching it to come without a treat...is better because the affection IS the treat.

@ZBX59 Actually, it does if you know how to use it. She didn't really teach you how, and also wasn't quite using it correctly herself. The click tells your pet that there will be a treat for what they are doing. You have to teach the cat that the sound of the clicker means a treat first, then use it to mark the behaviour. After three days the cat is still kind of distracted easily by something they may have not seen before in your house, try only very short training sessions.

It's a great idea. My cats almost always come when I call them. I don't give them treats when they come just pet them. I can call their names and then tap on my thigh when I want them in my lap. The problem I see is that if they are scared they will never come so when mine sneaks outside, forget it he is too overwhelmed to listen to me at all. I think it would be the same way if there was a fire.

I have two cats, one is a fat, lazy orange, male cat named Precious, and the other is a slim, hyper-active female cat named Kisa. I tried this with them and got some interesting results. Instead of treats, I used dungeness crab. Kisa took a long time before she actually came to get the treat, but Precious came to get it right away. However, Precious became aggressive and kept attacking me in feeble attempts to steal the crab bits, while Kisa was mostly calm and waited until I put the treat down.
