to me the most pressing change that's needed is democrats getting their head out of their asses and start obeying mike singletary's rule #1 and hit some republicans (esp. in swing states) in the mouth... then you'll see how quickly they gonna vote for jobs measures, clean energy and gender rights.
the fact that dems are also bought by wall st lets them play good cop bad cop with their base. as long as dems dont feel the heat from us they wont stand up to the repubs
Mhm. The fact that you don't grasp the evolution of individual self-sovereignty as both a philosophical and legal concept, nor how the vestiges of the Magna Carta's ideas affected the Enlightenment ideas of US founders, is really your problem not mine. However that shouldn't keep you from spouting on as it almost has the potential to be amusing.
Reform the filibuster? Hahahahaha, GOP controls the house will soon control the Senate! Please, Ya really think the repubs will filibuster their own legislation?
Excellent interview and it confirms something I've believed for a long time - it's not that Americans have necessarily agreed or disagreed with an agenda or even an idea in that agenda necessarily - it's that nothing is ever really getting done by Washington. Congress has had, under both Democrats AND Republicans now, a HORRIBLE job approval as far as a body of government goes.
I like a lot of Klein's ideas, but I'd even be happy with Mr. Smith Goes to Washington's version of it again.
It's too late. Does it matter now? They love using it as an excuse but even if they get cloture they continue with the drama when it isn't in their interest to carry out what they owe their voters. Strange to hear "progressives" talk about the filibuster problem as if it were a given. It was never a problem for the republicans whether they were the majority or minority party. To change it now would be the absolute worst time for democrats. So I guess now they'll consider it?
Great interview Sam! Ezra Klein brings some very interesting points. There is a need to change the format of the filibuster. Having a filibuster for the sake of not allowing the other political group govern is a very dangerous and stupid ideology. Hopefully, a large number of people will get behind changing how the filibuster is done now.
Ezra Klein is too adorable to take seriously, so it's a good thing I already agree with him that cloture needs to be reformed in a way that will last. I don't see how anyone would agree with filibusters in their current form of "obstructionist tools" to delay things you don't like.
Much appreciate the wonky interview. I've seen Klein many times doing sound byte type commentary but had no idea how bright he is until this interview. Thanks, good work.
Great interview. The filibuster really needs reform but what also needs reform is the way Democrats fight for their ideals. We need the Dems to fight for what America really wants and needs.
I'd love to have a beer with Ezra, he seems like a pretty cool guy to have a chat with.

Most Republican voters I know personally think that the best state of DC is one of gridlock.

Frankly I believe the whole American system is not any good for the modern world.
On top of that you people seem to have far too many elections for too many positions.
Why not try a parliament and a Prime Minster for a while.
Too many of you seem to think your constitution is some sort of holy writ. It is not.
I worry your antique system will drag your nation down.

Is Ezra Klein the guy who thinks the US Constitution is too old to be relevant?
What about the Magna Carta? It's very old I've heard.
He no doubt thinks anything worth knowing only happened in the last 30 years.

"People get the government they deserve"
The fact that only 25% know what a filibuster is explains our current situation perfectly.

To me the most pressing change is the change to the filibuster rules. This needs changing so our Congress can start working again.

Hey Sam, you can turn off that "bloop" sound that happens when you change the Mac's volume.
Apple Menu > System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effects > Play feedback when volume is changed
ps.... great job on Countdown this week!
