On interstate 8 exit is called In Ka Pa. Head south and you should see road that leads into Valley of the Moon (off road trail but have made it in a car) follow all the way till it clears into the Valley. Easy to find just look to left(kinda NE)and climb first set of rock hill. Cave at top really neat. There are hundreds of caves in area and some resemble ruins.
Theres a main cave there where people have left a mattress, carpeting,a table, wine, peanut butter etc. and also a book with signatures that people from around the world have signed. Also got lost here and ended up in Mexico, About 30 illegals jumped out of a truck and gave me a ride to Tijuana cause I couldn't walk anymore.
I once had a problem finding my way back I had wandered quite a way following trails and there is no fence there. I kept getting into blind canyons. Finaly orientated myself to a northward direction and followed the Water drainage out to Hwy 8. wound up doing about 8miles. Where is this main Cave
We used to camp up here in the 60's, hunting bobcats (never got one, I'm happy to say!) No "fill-in" rocks then. We took shelter from a huge downpour for 2 days. The lighting show at night was spectacular. Too bad 'bout the trash.
scum bags. spray paint, trash and burnt out. I wish people had more respect.

This would be the Road That leads directly from HWY 80 to The trail to Smugglers Cave and not some other route in
