I've looked into some of the stuff regarding 2012, and while I haven't found in an hour anything where someone says the special deal about the alignment of the planets just by itself is significant, it's impossible for a guy like this to keep up with the lies they all tell. @JerezJulio: At best, gab1159 is severely mixed up. The galactic plane exists, but is not special. The galaxy is a disk about 1,000 light years thick. The middle of that disk is the galactic plane. That's it. I think that gab1159 is putting together some ad-hoc bits and pieces he heard. Some people (not astronomers) have suggested that crossing the galactic plane is the cause of mass extinctions (unlikely) and gab1159 probably thinks that this has something to do with 2012 (it doesn't).

I said that the term "galactic plane" does exist, but there is absolutely nothing nothing about it that somehow makes a new planet magically pop out of nowhere.
Btw, Earth does not cross the galactic disk twice a year. The galactic disk is 1,000 light years thick. We cross it every 70 million years or so (I forget the exact number).

You can see all planets except Neptune with the naked eye (Uranus just barely). Any planet closer than Saturn would be very easy to spot by amateur astronomers.

Why do people "debunk" things that aren't even claimed? 2012 is the end of the long count calendar, there are specific predictions about dates after 13.0.0.0.0 which is 12/21/12 in the gregorian. I've looked into some of the stuff regarding 2012, and while I haven't found in an hour anything where someone says the special deal about the alignment of the planets just by itself is significant, it's impossible for a guy like this to keep up with the lies they all tell. @MrTickleparty You're right! I've heard Tyson speak on this several times & he consistently gets his presentation of 2012ology wrong in this regard. I hope he updates his critique to include facts like this, but he probably wont since his "it happens every year" line seems to be the punchline he saves for the end of all his quips on 2012. I still enjoy listening to Tyson though. He's really bright, but his knowledge of 2012 sources seems limited to "websites" since that's all he ever refers to.

Is intellectual honesty ONLY important when we discuss theories we like? I'm aware of NO 2012 theories that are based on the annual solstice event. @JerezJulio: At best, gab1159 is severely mixed up. The galactic plane exists, but is not special. The galaxy is a disk about 1,000 light years thick. The middle of that disk is the galactic plane. That's it. I think that gab1159 is putting together some ad-hoc bits and pieces he heard. Some people (not astronomers) have suggested that crossing the galactic plane is the cause of mass extinctions (unlikely) and gab1159 probably thinks that this has something to do with 2012 (it doesn't).

There is not such thing as a galactic plane as if it was a papel thing plane.
When you talk about a multi body system what you get is a Mean dick since no all
bodies line up is a perfect plane.
In the case of the the center of the Milkyway, the sun and the earth, it just happens
that the earth crosses the Galactic dick twice a year.
How will that show a new Planet?

I said that the term "galactic plane" does exist, but there is absolutely nothing nothing about it that somehow makes a new planet magically pop out of nowhere.
Btw, Earth does not cross the galactic disk twice a year. The galactic disk is 1,000 light years thick. We cross it every 70 million years or so (I forget the exact number).

@JerezJulio: Ok. Understood. Of course, you are right that any planet anywhere near would be very easy to see. You don't even need powerful instruments. You can see all planets except Neptune with the naked eye (Uranus just barely). Any planet closer than Saturn would be very easy to spot by amateur astronomers.

It's obvious these time periods are signifigant and they knew about them. Each age is an ascension and is a correlation of a move upward on the steps of the pyramid, although their time keeping covers all of time on the earth, and although the calendar doesn't end, never in history have we reached the top of the pyramid of consciousness as we are now and will totally be in a couple years. The Maya were about time and consciousness, the 9 underworlds and the evolution of consciousness according to the "6 nights and 7 days of creation" within each underworld relate to stages of consciousness in the universe starting 16.4 billion years prior to 13.0.0.0.0, the 6th underworld being 3114 BC - 2012, the 7th being 1756-2012 8th being 1999-2012 and the 9th November 2011-December21, 2012. The 6th = Law, 7th= Mechanical, 8th = Global consciousness and 9th = Galactic consciousness.

Why do people "debunk" things that aren't even claimed? 2012 is the end of the long count calendar, there are specific predictions about dates after 13.0.0.0.0 which is 12/21/12 in the gregorian. Nowhere in Mayan literature or tradition is it stated that anything is happening because of an alignment, no "2012er" is basing anything off of these things like planet X or the alignment though sometimes that stuff gets thrown into tthe mix.

The passing of the galactic equator ? Some 2012'ers try to convince people that we are moving toward the galactic equator...No we're not. Astronomy shows we cross the galactic equator every 33 million years and that we last crossed it 3 million years ago. What does all that mean ? We aren't getting ready cross the galactic equator...We are moving AWAY from it.
