@Susi2584 Ledger did a fantastic job, but he was a joyless joker. He had a completly dark and homicidal personality through the entire movie with only a few chuckles here and there. Hamill makes the joker think killing is the funniest joke ever. Hes totally bubbly and happy and doesnt give a damn as long as hes laughing. Thats how he is suposed to be.
@AssyMcBallsack his Joker was based on ''The Killing Joke''...I wouldn't say he was joyless...Hamill was a voice:)...do you think Hamill could play The Joker?
@Susi2584 No. Hamill couldn't play a live action joker. I'm just saying that when i visualize the joker, i picture him with the fun personality and the mark hamill laugh that the cartoon joker brings. its mine and a lot of other peoples favorite joker too.
@Megalords1177 please, Hamill was just a fuckin voice....ledger's joker shits on those two he's the psychopath while nicholson and voice hamill were childish
Both their laughs are amazing, they chill me to the very soul. Scary as shit, aspiring jokers should learn from them, but put their own twists on it as well.
@ChasehaWing Totally agree. Both of them had a different take on the character, but both laughs were great and both made for a frighteningly insane character.
@gamertoot99 you can't compare Nicholson's 60-year career to Ledger's short movie career...if Nicholson died young he wouldn't make those great movies...if Ledger didn't die I'm sure he would make a lot of great movies...
The difference: Ledger gives so much more personality and background history with his version of the joker.. Little did i know when i watched 'A Knights Tale' all those years ago for the first time, did i think that Ledger would go on to do one of my favourite bits of acting i've seen
Jack N was Jack N in Batman he acted like he would any where else. Heath was The Joker. Thats the difference. Jack didn't completely commit to the role like Ledger did. That's what I believe
@alan021es oh please Nicholson palyed himself...he is the greatest actor but as The Joker he is laughable...probably didn't even watch ''The Dark Knight'' just jerking off to Tim Burton's movies...
Heath was great, but his version of Joker is a bit far to the extreme, while Jack is a bit more balanced. What makes a great Joker is that he terrifies you but can also make you laugh.
Heath Ledger was an awesome Joker, but Nicholson has always played a great psycho (ala "The Shining") so, while both are awesome, Jack takes it because he's good at it. In my professional opinion, anyways, not to downgrade Heath's epic performance.
Naah...Jack was exactly like the comics. He'd kill, then laugh his butt off! Heath...would just kill mostly....not taking anything away from him though.
Jack Nicholson Joker: Crazy Evil, cannot discern between right and wrong, has a lot of resources, has a history with Batman, and smiles almost all the time.
Heath Ledger Joker: Purest form of evil, has little resources but climbs the ladder quickly, scary just looking at him, the kind of evil that likes to torment and scare, plus he does not care who he kills, he just wants his goal met, comes out if the blue, no history with the batman, pure chaos lover.
It's SO hard to compare these two great men. They interpreted their respective Joker's in two VERY different ways. I find Nicholson more creepy and Ledger (may he rest in peace) more dark. Either way, I can't even begin to choose between them! And their laughs? God how much they freak me out! Well done!
nicholson's laughs aren't nearly as great as some of ledger's. the laugh when ledger is torturing the fake batman is absolutely terrifying but also nostalgic of the animated series, while nicholson just reminds me of some annoying people I have class with...
as far as the laugh goes hamil-nicholson-ledger. im sure many would disagree with me but i just find nicholsons laugh better than ledgers, but as far as performance goes ledgers the better of the two.
@YourMineCast I must say that, more than a "mixture" ,it is a "copy", a really bad I must add, but at least, you know the diference, and that's good... until I started to lose my hair (damn for the genes that made that to me) and then to "shave" my head, everybody called me "EMO" just because I dressed in black (me a gothic/metal dood)
Nah. Ledger was the best joker. What did Jack's character do? JACK SHIT. Shit was weak. Always hated that Batman: The Movie. Fuck, Tim Burton, Jack Nicholson and the whole cast and crew. Made me hate Batman. Thank God for Mark Hamill and the animated series. Then Ledger came along and redeemed the Joker. If you think otherwise, you never read the comics. Remember reading books? Not the fucking kindle, I MEAN A FUCKING BOOK. Not because you had to and shit, because it was a form of entertainment.
@zachoey79 couldnt agree more with you, I grew up with Mark Hamill so I feel his voice is perfect, however, that doesnt mean Heath Ledger shouldnt go unoticed for what he did and brought. Especially since some of his dialogue was actually inspired by The Killing Joke, and also for bringing in his own interpretation of the character that was brilliant. I felt Nicholsons portrayal was too comicy and not dark enough. kudos to you.
@zachoey79 Calm the hell down. I for one am able to see the greatness In all three. If you think deeply on this you will realize that between Jack, Mark and, Heath, there is no dominant personification.
i dont make this up you ask me question i got your answer from google you wanted response i gave it to you if you dont like meaning of word dont bother asking someone for help what meaning of the word is futher more i ddint say joker had emo look to him that was another member who said that not me
@StreetsOfSonic the point is i never said joker was emo i never think of him as emo to begin with he he said it not me. Jack Nicholson: Joker Heath Ledger: Emo
Tadddius 2 weeks ago. you ask question what emo meant i gave you an answer THAT IS All i did
Jack Joker: Snapped and decided to just have fun killing and maiming everyone in sight.....and had a fuckin' good laugh while he did it. He genuinely enjoyed the pain he caused.

I would agree with some comments. Jack Nicholson does justice to the Joker because he's funny while maniac at the same time. Heath Ledger on the other hand is pure evil, smart, freaking awesome. @StreetsOfSonic emo is another saying gothic, goth person someone who never smiles many people say emo i say gothic, goth, alot say noobs, i say newtype both words mean samething only differnt way of saying it
That's ridiculous. Furthermore, how exactly does it apply to the character? The Joker certainly smiled a lot; he also happened to be more scary and ruthless.
@StreetsOfSonic you asked what word meant i gave few differnt options of saying emo, gothic dont belive me look it up you asked question i answerd with differnt answers that gave same meaning
@StreetsOfSonic You will notice a lot of the current youth generation, or "Online generation" are apathetic towards everything. If you show concern in anyway you will be described as "emo" or "butthurt" or "noob", this style of moronic behavior is used to frustrate the person on the other end. In other words, the youth of American have declared that showing emotion and caring is not cool. Apathy is cool.
@dragonball3166 Emo isn't Gothic. That's like saying that death metal is emo, or saying that a mortuary is a gothic hospital.
Noob isn't the equivalent of newtype either. Newtype is excessively referenced in JAV as a transexual who hasn't has the removal operation. Noob is a derivation of Newby, itself an early 1920s slang for new person. Clearly not transexual.
@Tadddius Go suck Penguin's dick you stupid transexual bastard.. Just get out of this video you shit stained cocksucker.. I think you should've played Robin in Batman & Robin since it was full of homosexual innuendos, I think you would be a perfect fit in that piece of shit
@MrJohn2010 Which really sucks because he says he's done with the character. Sick to have two of america's most famous icons as characters you own on your resume.
Jack's laugh sounds great since his version represents the classic, original Joker. Ledgers Joker is like no other Joker that has ever appeared in the Batman universe. Very fresh and different, and still so true to the series. Love to you Heath!
Ledger has the more maniacal laugh. Nicholson however while he is the original (correct me batman fans if i am indeed wrong), i still cant get past his role in Anger Managment. which is the movie i was introduced to him through
They really need to get a Joker who can at the very least LAUGH like Mark Hammil's Joker. I mean, that's the best Joker, and I refuse to accept these live action movies until they get a good Batman/Bruce Wayne (who doesn't talk like he's been smoking all his life as Batman).
The Jokers throughout the years really can't be compared because of the different movie setups. Jack: Comically sinister, dark practical joker, just crazy. Heath: Insane, realistic, merciless, twisted, and just messed up. But seriously, Ledger's laugh when he tortures Brian . . . That laugh sends chills up and down my body. EVERY. TIME. Ledger did incredible
I'd say both did well with how the character was written, which varied in each film. Still, I would say if it were reversed, Nicholson would be great in Dark Knight, while Ledger would die on his ass in 1989.
Idk what you guys were listening to but Nicholsons laugh was like he was laughing at a good joke. When Ledger laughed it sounded more like the evil maniac the joker is known for. Ledger sounded completely insane. The "i'm glad your dead" laugh was good though.
But to everyone who likes to compare...your morons, lol. Just like one of the previous posters said...its unfair to put these two in the same category. Personalities of the character they portrayed was different. I grew up watching jack as the joker (and hearing mark hamill as the joker too). But ledgers did a kick ass job on his version
They both did an excellent job being the Joker, so it's hard to choose. Jack's laugh is the classic Joker laugh: darkly whimsical and always denoting the presence of a hilariously deranged (but still intimidating) criminal. Heath's laugh sounds more cynical and dangerous, the type of laugh a sadistic anarchal sociopath would make when he's killing his victims or making something explode.
@steinerkids It depends what the Batman movie is. The Dark Knight was a darker, more evil version, and Heath did a great job as the darker Joker. However, the Joker isn't dark, he's funny, psychopathic, sadistic, and insane. Jack Nicholson did a better job with that Joker. However, I think we all can agree Mark Hamill is the best Joker.
Sorry, did you actually say the Joker isn't dark? Obviously you have ZERO understanding of that character. Just because a character may dress in bright color doesn't mean he's not dark, dude. If you think Joker isn't dark, you need to read The Killing Joke. If you still don't think Joker is dark after that, then your opinion isn't worth much.
@michaelangelo27 Well, more contrasting is what I meant. I know the Joker is dark and evil, but in that specific movie he was brighter, less evil, more just insane. I'll be honest, I never read The Killing or A Death In The Family, and I don't claim to be a Batman know it all, but what you were saying about Jack doing a terrible job as Joker is just ignorant. The Joker is dark, but that movie has him brighter, and Jack does a great job as that brighter Joker.
Nichelsons' impersonation of the Joker was just a thousand times better then Heaths', because he actually played the lunatic, Psychopathic, crazy out of control maniac the Joker is.

@MrJohn2010 Which really sucks because he says he's done with the character. Sick to have two of america's most famous icons as characters you own on your resume.

@MrJohn2010 no he isn't he was just a stupid voice...he couldn't play the joker even if his life depended on it...

Jack's laugh sounds great since his version represents the classic, original Joker. Ledgers Joker is like no other Joker that has ever appeared in the Batman universe. Very fresh and different, and still so true to the series. Love to you Heath!

nicholson's joker suck...always did
Corleonetone 2 months ago
Ledger has the more maniacal laugh. Nicholson however while he is the original (correct me batman fans if i am indeed wrong), i still cant get past his role in Anger Managment. which is the movie i was introduced to him through

heath's laugh as the joker is super creepy!!!!!!!!
Nikkkylove 3 months ago
They really need to get a Joker who can at the very least LAUGH like Mark Hammil's Joker. I mean, that's the best Joker, and I refuse to accept these live action movies until they get a good Batman/Bruce Wayne (who doesn't talk like he's been smoking all his life as Batman).
fireball111121 3 months ago
this video isnt biased at all lol. I thought heath's joker was infinitely better than jack's. I like how dark heath's joker was.

Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger are tied for a DISTANT third with Mark Hamil and Ted Knight tied for a distant second as far as Jokers go.
Who was first?
Cesar Romero, of course! :)

EVERY. TIME. Ledger did incredible

lostboys100xx 3 months ago
I'd say both did well with how the character was written, which varied in each film. Still, I would say if it were reversed, Nicholson would be great in Dark Knight, while Ledger would die on his ass in 1989.
JoesGuy 3 months ago
i prefer jacks joker. but as many other comments say. animated joker ftw.
EnvelTheTrader 3 months ago
Idk what you guys were listening to but Nicholsons laugh was like he was laughing at a good joke. When Ledger laughed it sounded more like the evil maniac the joker is known for. Ledger sounded completely insane. The "i'm glad your dead" laugh was good though.
skillethead15 3 months ago
From these two, Nicholson. But I like the animated Joker from the original animated series most.

Great video, thanks for the upload.

@13Physco13 WTF u talkin bout ledger is so much fuckin better fuck Nicholson
steinerkids 4 months ago
@steinerkids It depends what the Batman movie is. The Dark Knight was a darker, more evil version, and Heath did a great job as the darker Joker. However, the Joker isn't dark, he's funny, psychopathic, sadistic, and insane. Jack Nicholson did a better job with that Joker. However, I think we all can agree Mark Hamill is the best Joker.
Snake1045 4 months ago
@Snake1045
Sorry, did you actually say the Joker isn't dark? Obviously you have ZERO understanding of that character. Just because a character may dress in bright color doesn't mean he's not dark, dude. If you think Joker isn't dark, you need to read The Killing Joke. If you still don't think Joker is dark after that, then your opinion isn't worth much.
michaelangelo27 4 months ago
@michaelangelo27 Well, more contrasting is what I meant. I know the Joker is dark and evil, but in that specific movie he was brighter, less evil, more just insane. I'll be honest, I never read The Killing or A Death In The Family, and I don't claim to be a Batman know it all, but what you were saying about Jack doing a terrible job as Joker is just ignorant. The Joker is dark, but that movie has him brighter, and Jack does a great job as that brighter Joker.

If there could be some cross between Nicholson's Joker and Ledger's Joker, that would be the shit.
ScottishStu93 4 months ago
Nichelsons' impersonation of the Joker was just a thousand times better then Heaths', because he actually played the lunatic, Psychopathic, crazy out of control maniac the Joker is.
