  • SSRI's are like LSD minus any positive or mind expanding effects... and that makes a very crappy drug.

  • I think more fool people on here that think these medications are good. I have bipolar i have a ton of Zoloft sitting here i refuse to take because i know better then to pump my body full of this crap.

There are safer and better alternatives out there some of which i use myself.

any chemical or drug that effects the brain cant be doing much good.

i welcome any of you to come over and have some zoloft maybe make a document on what it does to your body.

  • And those who have lost their lives as a result of not having been treated for serious mental illness? Who speaks for them?

  • .. LSD , what a bullshit. The only thing that makes them "work like LSD" is that theyre agonising 5ht2a-agonists, some SSRI more selective than others. The agonism of ht2a should result in downregulation of receptor which will result in an increase in dopamine which should hypothetically render the effect the opposite of the ht2a. .However I care more about real problems with those meds. SSRI apathy(iatrogenic anhedonia(?), PSSD. Iam not fond of those pharmas pills either, but keep it real.

  • @MrPannlob

Can you explain to me in more simple terms? You really seem to know your stuff

  • @JayPull85 Actually, theres too much to write. It's not impossible that SSRI stimulates 5ht2a-receptors. I have never tried LSD but I think anyone who think SSRI would give that feeling would be disappointed. SSRI is quite unselective in reality. And ALL SSRI differs in profile. Fluoxetine and Agomelatine got 5ht2c-antagonism for instance. I would actually refer to Stephen M Stahls book.

tahl's Essential Psychopharmacology: Neuroscientific Basis and Practical Applications. Best Regards Martin.

  • @MrPannlob and as a little addition. one can do some research by his/her own. There are 5ht2 receptors in orbitalprefrontalcortex and visual cortex. It's quite likely stimulation of visual cortex(or if it is stimulation, I am under the impression serotonin got an deactivating effect, and maybe that forces the brain to make up crap). 5ht2-antagonism is in atypical neuroleptic for instance. I guess it triess to address OrbPFC because that area is related to goalorientation ackording to wikipedia..

  • @MrPannlob and sorry for keeping on writing. but I must add that the antagonism probably result in Dopamine and noradrenaline increase as stated in S.M Stahls book. I miswrote a part to. I Meant 5ht2a-antagonism not 5ht2-antagonism even though it's a subreceptor. The activating effect of antagonism (noradrenaline-dopamine disinhibitation) is something one can feel if one for instance try fluoxetin with its 5ht2c-antagonism which can give a antidepressive effect from day 1 or 2..

  • Anyone with a need to so heavily emphasize her credentials is not qualified to speak ill of LSD.

She needs psychotherapy, and it may not help. She needs an Ayahuasca journey or something.

    Are social conservatives autistic?

  • I can recall a news story of a college student who hung herself while in a program to test antidepressants she had no mental health issue was a healthy subject doing a drug test for the money. There are countless stories they get no air time as big pharma runs adds on all the major tv stations ect. A monopoly costing people their lives.

  • Thanks for sharing that. I'd always wondered what happened to the ppl who participated in the trials for these drugs. After coming off them, you realize that they also have permanent affects (like inability to get an erection/orgasm) It just frightens me to imagine all the stories you DON'T get to hear about. How many have lost their lives quietly, out of the blue, behind the scenes without anyone being able to attribute it to anything.

  • And that leads me to my last point (I swear it'll be my last:) But, why is everyone in this country so narrow minded like this? It's not ALL the drugs fault, and it may not be ALL the killers taking these drugs fault either. But why are people always on one extreme or the other?? Like why do we only have democrats and republicans to chose from? They both suck! Yes, maybe one sucks more than the other, but they both suck! As I said in my first reply, it's NOT ALL BLACK AND WHITE!!!

  • I hope you never lose someone to these drugs.

Then you will be on the black side

  • But, to imply that these drugs will cause an otherwise normal person to commit murders etc. is simply not the case. I'm sure these drugs can aggravate the underlying condition that these nice killers have, but to blame the drugs in this way is to take all responsibility away from the killer, the society, their families and the many things that contribute to their ultimate demise.

  • you are wrong. this has been happening since the invention of these drugs. you just have not heard about it ..now families..who have witnessed

    this happening..are speaking out.

    trust me.... I know.

  • Hey TwistedFilms, why don't you do this: go the doctor, say you've been depressed for a long time and you're suicidal. Get them to prescribe you antidepressants. Then we'll see if you're still talking shit after one year of being on them. You're just the type of person who I wish had participated in the trials. Until you've experienced being on an antideppresant yourself, please don't talk crap. Because your opinion doesn't count for much.

  • And finally I'll just repeat that- absolutely these drugs are serious, and they are most often irresponsibly prescribed. And little kids shouldn't be taking amphetamines for attention problems. And how about psychiatrists prescribe exercise and a better diet sometimes, long before they resort to prescribing these much more serious meds.

I'm on board with you there. And yes, drug companies are driven by profits and greed, and the congress is in their pockets, so they don't give a shit....

  • Sorry, I just got to the end of this clip, and this woman is way off. The comparison to LSD is absurd. And there was a place for even LSD research in mental health that should NEVER have been banned by the government in their 'war on drugs' which actually kills far more people than it helps (if it even helps anyone, other than the judges and lawyers and cops who live off the system)

I'm sorry, but the way she presents the information and makes these comparisons is manipulative and incorrect.

  • YOU ARE WRONG. AND WHEN YOU LOSE SOMEONE AS I HAVE YOU WILL CHANGE YOUR TUNE!

    Trust me.... she is right!

  • If you've ever lived with someone suffering from schizophrenia or severe bipolar disorder, and even unipolar/major depression, you would recognize the importance of these medications. Some of these conditions are crippling to the poor people who live with them, and it is simply reckless to dismiss all of these medications and imply that they could make you a killer. The people who have taken these medications and killed people, clearly have other issues going on.

  • I think her hearts in the right place, BUT, it's just not that black and white. And for god's sake, leave the bible out of it!! Yes, these drugs are more serious than people are aware, and indeed they are drastically over prescribed, and indeed an exercise "prescription" would be far more beneficial mostly.

HOWEVER, there is a place for these medications in our society, and if used/prescribed in a more careful way, they have far more beneficial results than negative ones.
