....Ha ha! To be decided: Chef ? .... or Chief ? That in the end is the same, for the meaning. The difference is between the Cook and the Boss. Or not? The important thing is that we eat well .... and cheap! We don't wanna a ...thief... chef... cook... chief!!! Bye bye! =o)
I agree Chief is over used on television programs but it is a title of respect for the people that have completed culinary school. Basically its like if you went to school for 8 years and got your doctors you would be Dr. Megalis. Typically you would have the Chief, then the assistant Chief or a Sue Chief but if you do not have formal training then you are just a cook.
@nithia ok, i guess i get going to school and working hard and all that--but is culinary school the same as med school? Is it that hard and prestigious? Am I totally missing something here? I thought chefs were cooks. And then it felt to me that the Food Network has elevated these people for dramatic purposes. I just don't remember people being called Chef back in the 80s--it was like "Yeah, that's Ronny, he's a chef over at the Holiday Inn." Oh hey Ronny--was up?
@megalisstudio No the two compare poorly of course but that is what it is supposed to be, the title for those that complete the proper schooling. Usually involving many different styles of study. Culinary school is like art school and chemist school combined. It is very expensive and depending on who your instructors are very very difficult. But yes Food Network dose elevate people for dramatic purposes on the show they have. Guy is not a chef he is a cook, and the same goes for 90% of the rest.
