Yeah, a lot of guys in traditional martial arts do that. The people I trained with were under a guy that grew up in the early 20th century in Okinawa. They said back in the 80's a lot of the guys would work a second job as a bouncer to get in fights. I can't say I wouldn't do the same thing. Although I wouldn't pick fights with random people. Keep it for clubs and bars.

The situation you described isn't real fighting, it's a street attack and odds are it will never happen to you in your whole life, and Jiu Jitsu has moves to deal with that too, you don't get to them till you have mastered the fundamentals though

The martial arts world owe a lot to the Gracies. If they didn't put their reputation on the line to meet with other martial artists for a real fight then Bruce Lee movies would still be the closest thing to real fighting that we can imagine.

A lot of people trash talk the Gracies now a days. They didn't know how it was at that time when the Gracie ruled. All styles respect each other and there was no trash talking. Commercialization of MMA resulted to trash talking.

No one was jumped from behind a wall and hit in the back of a head. The contestants weren't drunk. Friends didn't jump in and help stomp the guy on the ground who was busy tying up the opponent with a guard/bottom scissor position etc. But they were more interesting to watch back then, that's for certain!

BJJ was from the very onset an art where striking was taught.
