You know when you take the bottle of water out of the freezer right after you just froze it a bit and you smack it on the bottom it will slowly (about 30 sec) will turn into supercooled water without opening the bottle. It will be mostly slush so it will be drinkable too.
It’s caused by supercooling. A liquid below its freezing point will only crystallize in the presence of a seed crystal or nucleus around which a crystal structure can form.
A regular glass of tap water will freeze at the normal temperature because the solution contains tiny particles of dust and dissolved gas, but A smooth container of distilled water can be cooled before freezing occurs automatically.
By taking the bottle out of the freezer and shaking it, you are allowing nucleation.
the reason water turns white when frozen is bc of the minerals in it. The most logical reason it will "supercool" is bc of the pressure/temp relationship of water.
@hhoverdrive1 somebody failed high school chemistry...
1. liquids can remain liquid below their freezing point if they're pure, as there is no 'seed' for the crystallization to use as a starting point.
2. Ice turns white because of the small amount of air trapped inside it, if you do it correctly its possible to get regular tap water to freeze crystal clear.
What's cool is you can use it as a cheap gag to impress your friends. Without them knowing, take the bottle out of the freezer, being very careful with it, and get their attention to it. Then make a violent movement with it, like shaking it or hitting it on the table, and it'll freeze instantly.
That would be awesome... or toss it at them. When they catch it it'll freeze right in their hands... that is if it sails through the air smoothly enough.
lol i did a great prand when i filled a water balloon with super cooled water really carefully and then showed my frend and then flicked it so it froz and then threw it on the ground next to him and he thought i had changed it into water magically lol he freeked out!
So if i understand this correctly, when you take the water out of the freezer it should still be freezing temperature, just not frozen? or can I wait as long as I'd like after I take it out of the freezer? Am I able to wait till the water is room temperature and still do this?
dude i need help when i put in freezer for about 1 hr and 30 min it comes out with a ice shell put inside is water should i put for longer or shorter?
You said pure water in your description, but you are using Nestle's water which has baking soda in it (sodium bicarbonate), calcium chloride and magnesium sulfate.
this isnt nothin unusual, only rare. just like you can make water hotter then 100c for example in microwave you can make water cooler then 0c but very unstable one false move and it will cristalize :)
well what i did was take a regular pop bottle, fill it with plain tap water and make sure there absolutly no air bubbles then put it outside overnight. it got down to 22 degrees (F) and it worked. the water needs to be free of impurities
im not sure if boiling normal water works because i've never tried it, but it usually works with an unopened bottle....sometimes it freezes early...or sometimes we just forget about it and it freezes but if you take it out of the freezer at the right time it works.
i have done this not exactly the same i tried freezing gatorade and left it for 2 days when i took it out it was not frozen i shoke it a little bit it turned into a slushi i opened it it was almost solid
It is most def not a trik ive done this plenty of times and it works fine, btw im pretty sure thats like ice at teh botem of the bowl not sodium acetate or w/e :P
This video is a trick. If you follow the instructions and put a bottle of unopened water in the freezer it will explode due to the 30% increase of volumn when water freezes. The only way to make super cooled water is with sodium acetate or similar compound.
This video isn't a trick and if you do it right you will get the same results. You're only supposed to put the water in the freezer for less than 2 hours so it doesn't freeze solid but so the temp is below freezing point
i'm having steak for dinner.

Not exactly, if you leave it out too long the temperature will rise above freezing point and ice crystals wont form

are you using purified water, if not, then try with that, if you are, then try a little less time. Im not exactly sure why that happens though.

But then again somebody who says "i done this once" instead of "i did this once" probably wouldn't understand the difference.
Look it up on wikipedia...but then again you might not understand the page because it's a little technical.
