Vann Nath, gentleman, artist and teacher, is one of the seven who by a series of unrepeatable twists, miraculously made it out alive from S 21. He has been a key advocate for K R war crime trials. See him in the documentary "Inside the Killing Machine" by Rithy Panh, where in a remarkable display of self possession he confronts the S21 torturers (virtually children at the time they committed their horrors in the interrogation rooms of Tuol Sleng.)
I actually met the painter of those horrific pictures. His name is Vann Nath and he owns a restaraunt in Phnom Penh. He has exhibited his work and wrote a biography. Arrested in January 1978, he was taken before the chief interrogator, Comrade Duch and asked to make busts and paintings of Pol Pot.
