  • @NissanTy Honestly Ford kind of shot themselves in the foot. Now you can get a 2010 new, or used for thousands less than a 2011 with the 5L. And if you know anything about cars, you could easily put out the 400HP the 5L has with essentially the same car.

  • @toyoracing89 true, but to achieve 400hp from a 4.6 you will need a blower, or a forged bottom end with some spray, either way you would still make good power. i am just tired of hearing people say (mainly the GM guys) you NEED a blower to make power, in some ways they are right, but i am a ford fan, and a fan of the 4.6 (3v and 4v only though), and i say who cares how you make power, as long as you can make the power.

  • @NissanTy True, but most of the people who comment on these videos are just 13 year olds or 40 year old bums that have never been to a track. The 4.6L was a great motor, hence why it's been in production in so many varieties for so many years. Headers, exhaust, intake, tune and you're already at 330-50HP to the wheels. Even a bigger throttlebody would get you near 350-360 to the wheels.

    I agree to an extent. I've got a 2010 and kind of wish I would've waited for the 11. I've got some motor go fast parts with cams and full exhaust on mine and I'm looking at 395hp at the motor. The new 5.0's with a CAI, full exhaust and a tune are now putting down 400-425 at the wheels. That's hard to beat!!

  • @Dion11197 The 4.6L is a really great motor so I'm not one to put it down just because a new one makes 112 more HP. The 4.6L with a blower and stock bottom end can easily push north of 425 and you still save yourself quite a lot more over buying a new 5L. But that's only if you're willing to fork that kind of money out. Until parts are cheaper for the 5L, I'm not really all that interested in it, but don't take it as I'm putting it down or insulting it because it is a great motor also.

  • @toyoracing89 I agree!! I'm just shy of their hp numbers and to agree with you, I do still have quite a bit less money invested then a new stock 5.0. I'm a huge fan of the 3v and I still think a fully prepped 4.6 with boost vs. a fully prepped 5.0 with boost will still put out about the same number. That would be a good test.

  • @Dion11197 definately. I used to have a ford f150 with a 2v 4.6 and it had ported and polished heads along with a procharger system on it. Stock exhaust and internals and I was getting about 300 to the wheels. But the transmission went out and I got a aluminator shortblock with a rebuild monster transmission 4r70w and was putting 424 to the wheels

  • @toyoracing89 I know what you mean... I had a similar set up with an 04 GT 2v. I had stock internals with an upper intake elbow, larger TB, 42# injectors, a vortec after cooled kit making 11 psi, AFM power pipe with a lightning MAF and a MAC cat back with an off-road h pipe and that car put down 477hp to the wheels and 461tq. It was a monster!!

  • i always loved camaro but new mustangs are just better cars. New 5.0 and v6 motors finally catch up to camaro. Mustang does have better fit and finish. No more different gaps all over the body. I also like ford navigation and sync. Gm is just stupid with onstar. NO one wants to pay monthly just to get navigation. In 2011 mustangs are the best muscle cars built.

  • @kobracommader I beleive the 4.6 aluminum blocks are capable of 900hp before you might run into issues. The rods are the weak link....500rwhp with a spot on tune...and even then your living on borrowed time. The aluminator pictured in this video is fully forged though and almost bullet proof. Cant wait to go up againts a 2011 GT! Stout mustang

  • @JarrodGT agreed. The block itself should be just fine as long as the sleeves are installed properely. The bottom end isnt bad but 500rwhp is a bit much. Id be replacing the bottom end for sure. Going to forged internals just makes sense. And hell at the same time you might as well pick up a bit more power while your at it. Do the whole bottom end.

    Auto's shift faster and harder than a manual can. They also launch harder due to the torque multipication of of the torque converter. the only manual that comes close is a dogbox or clutchless manual transmission

  • not necessarily...there arent many NA 4.6 or 5L strokers in the10's, but its certainly possible with the right suspension setup, gearing etc...in fact Al Papitto of BOSS 330 racing has run 9's in his NA 5.4 navi-stang...its a carb fed, iron block,AL heads navigator motor

  • Not quite, genius. The Gen III and Gen IV GM engines are pretty impressive right out of the box. They aren't charging the shit out of them as much either. But you apparently have an 04 GT, so you are trying to not say it sucks in performance. 260 HP out of the box, pretty sad.

I'm not going to keep quiet, it's a well known fact when the Mustang was released with the 4.6 it was a HUGE disappointment, technically it still should be. 93 Mustangs had 220hp, 96 Mustangs had 220hp, they upped it to 260 in 99, and now the engine is more complicated than before and only has 300.

  • The 4.6 Ford is using now is aluminum. The new 5.0 may be a little heavier by like roughly 30lbs or so due to the bigger cylinder head and 2 extra cams over the gt right now. But Lets Not Forget It's over 100 more horsepower so you do the math which would you prefer.

  • In 2011 Ford is overhauling the powertrains on both V6 and V8 models. A 3.7L V6 from the Mazda CX-9 is replacing the previous 4.0L V6 that made 210 hp.

    The GT is receiving a 5.0L V8 dubbed 'Coyote' Ford Modular engine. This engine packs 32-valves; twin, independent variable valve timing; and an 11:1 compression ratio. This engine is will be an all aluminum design and preliminarily said to make 412HP and 390ft-lbs of torque. The 2011 Mustang is also getting electronic power assisted steering.

  • not necessarily... you can controll more electronically via dohc... but really its all how its implemented... chevy is still using pushrod engines in the vettes and there awesome fast...

    One of the big things with SOHC is that the head development is simpler and it only runs off one cam per bank... which makes the engines cheaper to produce keeping cost down...
