When Vern sings you feel what he feels. He sings straight from the heart. Now thats real country musicv<3 and it doesnt get any better than that. This is why hes called the '' Voice''. Been a fan forever Love Trudie.

Vern was an under-rated giant of country music...his passing was a great loss. He should be right up there with the Haggards and Joneses, and in my book he is. What a voice...no one could sing a sad song like that man. These pretend "country music" singers today could learn a lot from Vern!

I couldn't agree with you more, pretty much word for word.!! There is very little real country music coming out today and what is, is coming from the older greats. Today it's pop and under talented singers like Taylor Swift who is judged more by looks fasion and appealing to preteens rather then true talent, Todays new stars are more about how well they can sell  advertising then really having the ability to hold a toon.!! Murder On Music Row....

wonderful tribute to a man whose music i have loved for a long while, saw him several times years ago in Texas and loved every minute of his shows...he, like my other hero and favorite, Steve Earle, always gave you $500 worth of music for a $20 ticket....RIP Vern, you will be missed, but your music will sustain those of us who remember....

I don't know if I agree with the comment about Vern being underrated. You don't get a nickname like "The Voice" for nothing. Granted, he was not a popular as he should have been, but respect is something that no one can take away. RIP Vern...or should I say, "The Voice".

I really do miss him and am so thankful that we have all this wonderful music to cherish because there is truly no one else who comes close to being as good as Vern. I listen to him every day and always will.

Thank you Floyd for this link. I have always loved this song by Vern. Even though it's so sad it's really beautiful in its style and feeling. In this video It kind of startled me when I saw the close shot of Vern in his younger days where he's clean shaven and just staring into the camera. It looks like he's right there right now alive and real. It's a good looking shot of him tho. We met him several years ago at The Nashville Palace and he was so pleasant. He is so missed. - Paula
