  • I don't even understand why received hate for this review. You make some valid points and it's not like you're ranting like some raving idiot saying "it's boring, it sucks!" Of course I have to disagree with you for the most part because I really liked them film and actually wasn't bored with it at all. However, I do agree immensely that it doesn't deliver on the thrills that were promised and even though I liked the story of Shoshanna, I wanted to see more of the Basterds.

  • @StuffedBurritoEnt And for anyone who may read this in the future, take note: This is how grown and mature people debate.

  • @StuffedBurritoEnt indeed!

  • I really try to avoid frying other people's opinions, but this just stung. This movie was one of his greatest! Though the dialogue does drag on a tad, it's part of Tarantino's charm. People who say that movies are too long to watch have film-oriented ADHD. I will admit thatTarantino movies are an aquired taste. Even so, it is impossible to disagree that he is not a good writer. My main problem is that you told him to have others direct for him. No one can deliver his movies the right way.

  • I loved this movie. I can see what you mean, anout the slowness of the dialogue, but it was so suspensefull and glorious that I couldn't not listen. I knew something would happen knowing Terentino, that's what made it so suspensefull. Plus the violence, oh man the violence was just something else man. You make good points, and I can see your reasoning, but I thought it was wonderfully written, with a great mix of gritiness and humor.

  • I really enjoyed IGB, your points I agree with, however I reckon I saw shallow side. Cheap comedy and effects with comic timing, direct no transition cuts and mindless senseless violence where everyone dies in 10 seconds.

Quentin Tarantino's work is brilliant. And while I love the film, your right.

  • Last time he gave his screenplay to another director, we got the decidedly non-Tarantino flavored "True Romance" and "Natural Born Killers/" Think about how awesome those two could've been if he had directed them.

  • I loved it, but that's cause I'm a Tarantino nut. I will admit, any shot that didn't have Brad Pitt or Christoph Waltz in it sucked.

  • Good review, but alas, I disagree!

  • Fury, I whole-heartedly disagree. When I first saw it, I had kind of the same viewpoints as you did, but after watching it two more times, I came to appreciate it. Just because it's not the movie that you expected doesn't mean it's not as great as it is. Now, you say the dialougue doesn't really develop any of the characters or forward the story, but I disagree. The opening scene with Hans Landa really developed his character.

  • You see that he's ruthless and intimidating, while being funny and charming at the same time. The bar scene, true, didn't add much to the story, but goddamn was it entertaining. It was funny watching Stiglitz waiting to explode in that scene. I did not find these scenes boring, they were very entertaining. I just don't see how could give this the bronze and yet give Transformers 2 the silver. I highly recommend that you watch this movie again.

  • Fury, i like your reviews...but you are wrong on this one i thought the dialouge was excelent and added alot of suspense to the film..ok so it didnt have as much action as you expected..i totally agree but that dosnt mean its a bad movie..i personally loved it

  • @layoffThaBongPipe i agree with you

  • @layoffThaBongPipe He's not wrong. He just has a different opinion.

  • yeah well., at least I didn't spent 20 fucken minutes playing a game about movies just so in the end I could tell you I thought this movie was overrated.

  • Transformers 2 better than Inglorious Basterds. Seriously Fury are you high.

  • Fury, this is an issue of false advertising. If you had been sold what the film really was, I think you would have enjoyed it far better. Plus, no love for Christophe Waltz?! Come on!

  • Are you serious? I LOVED Shoshana and Frederick and even Marcel who was barely in the movie and it made sense that the basterds weren't 'close' because they were so savage. I don't think it would have made sense to see them laughing and being like brothers and then see them happily beat someone else in the head with a bat. It would have been weird.

  • I disagree with you, I feel that some of the characters WERE undeveloped, so you are right there. But I felt that the movie was well made and that it delivered a good weekend flick

  • I disagree, I REALLY cared about the characters, I liked em, I thought the action was great, some dialouge did go on a little too long. But the rest of the film made up for it enough for it to land my favorite movie list! Way to go QT!

  • He doesn't make fun of you country, but only the NAZIS

  • I do boycott the film, so I will never find out. Maybe when they broadcast it on TV next year. See you then again guys.

  • tarantino is awesome. look in WWII the nazi regime (is that spelled right?) were evil people and everyone wanted them to just die. so basically the basterds kill nazis and put gun holes through their bodies. dont make me call out the bear jew

  • lol little man

  • yes that was funny to

  • I thought this was a great movie, and the pacing and build-up were absolutely perfect for me.

  • bullshit, its class

  • agree wit u that there was not much action just long talk scenes that drag on too long and i watch it hoping somthing will happen but nothing really does. i wanted to the bastard kickin ass but instead just two hours of contest talkin. The was movie was all rite.

  • til swigger^^ its til schweiger:D

  • I am not into war movies, remakes or reboots but this one I liked very much. Tarintino spins the tale of how the war should have gone that is killing Hitler-and much sooner. Pitt was great as usual- I like all his moviies-Waltz good too. I like any movie where they kill Nazi's and the scalping part was especially gratifying to see them kill these german bas-terds. More movies like this ..sends the right message.

  • oh fury, I knew I could count on you to tell it like it is and not be swayed by the popular consensus. it seems like people have strong opinions about this movie and if they like it, they really like it and can't stand hearing any criticism of the film. What irked me about this movie is that it was a whole lot of nothing. Just alot of suspense and build up and when it finished, i just shrugged my shoulders. The first scene was the best and most brilliantly done. after that, it was a let down

  • =) thanks!

  • this movie rocked what do you mean bronze!!!!! it should be platinuim

  • wow this was way better than that district-9 crap srsly...

  • As a fan of films QT will love district 9 and its uniqueness and be disappointed in his confused ordinary serious distressing and occasional very silly inglorious . QT can thank Christoph Waltz for his amazing performance with out him this film would have fallen flat on it arse .

  • shut ur mouth

  • cmon, district 9 was good and then they went hey, lets throw the script out the window and blow some ppl up that show make some money...and ooh lets make every1 feel bad for the poor savage aliens

  • no it was epic. I cried through the whole last 30 minutes

  • I take it you neither understand German nor French. This film is alot about dialogs and finess in language. So if you're not speaking the three languages spoken in the film I can how see it drags. But believe me it doesn't. Tarintino really celebrates the variety of languages and does a great job in doing that.

  • Sure and Transformers 2 was about the complexities of explosions and it's effect on society.

  • Hey you're the one who thought this is a buddy movie.

  • The move was advertised as an "Inglourious Basterds" Film not a "Soshana meets the gang" film. Even still, with allllll the talking in this movie you don't get to know these characters any better. You tell me how is that solid story telling or as you say "fitness in language" no sir that's called Rambling. It may have worked in Pulp Fiction but it sure as hell didn't in Death Proof and again in this move.

  • i meant finesse. But I forgot the last e, so my bad.

And I stay by what I said, the film you wanted to see. Tarintino never intended to make. Learn French and German and then you might appreciate what this movie is.

  • your comment and view of this movie is both ignorant and retarded. People don't need to know different languages to appreciate a movie.

  • It was written by someone who speaks neither French or German and all of the dialogue is explained with subtitles so you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • I saw it today and it made me wish that they were more writers/directors out there who are as successful as they are talented, as Tarantino is.

  • -because it was so unpredictable, I had no clue what was going to happen. It had the same unpredictable-ness as District 9. I've seen movies like transformers, and I enjoyed it, but I know it wasn't going to end on a sad note, it never would. I've seen romance movies, and I know they weren't going to end on a happy note, I did not know how this one was going to end or even how the next scene was played out.

    That's why I loved this movie. Arivaderchee![Hehe]

  • So I saw this movie last night and I must say, it was pretty good. It wasn't what I was expecting, but what it turned out to be, was good. I understand that a lot of people do not like how it drags on but I thought that was more of a plus than a negative. The scenes that dragged on while at first seemed unneeded once they where down, you understood why they where there. For instance, in the beginning, that scene, ya that developed a character and what you thought of him. I also liked this movie-

  • I will see this movie.

  • I've heard so many mixed reviews on this movie.

I'm going to try and pretend it was directed by a brand-new director and not Tarantino.

Sometimes I will watch a movie and give it an out of 4 rating and then look up what Ebert gave it. Usually we're pretty damn close. I cheated this evening and looked at his rating. 4/4 seems high. Another reason to try and stay open minded.

I hope Ebert's not going soft. I watched "The Goods" and hated it. Then I came home and noticed he gave it 3/4.

  • I think we're all allowed a little leeway here and there when it comes to movies as long as we give our specific reasons for how we feel. Unlike someone like say..Armond White : critic from Rotten Tomatoes and the New York Press who almost always goes against the popular opinion for what it looks like an attempt at some attention. I'm at the middle with this film, it's good parts with some problems so a bronze is fitting. Let me know what you thought of it if you see it.

  • It's funny because I stopped by my parents' house yesterday and my little brother was stoked about seeing it last night for the same reason that my mom didn't want to see it. Violence. From what I hear, my mom will probably enjoy it more(being half German and also a French teacher).

It really seems like one of those rare movies where you know exactly who to recommend it to and whom to tell that they wouldn't like it.

I'll let you know what I thought of it in a week if you care.

  • i was kind of disappointed with this movie...at times it got tedious.

  • i thought the same with the dark knight where it had scenes that took longer then it needed

  • I like the movie a lot. I thought it was better than some of the movies this summer.

  • Basterds = Bastards (I know it's spelled "Basterds" in the title, but the spelling of the word is still wrong)

  • Well, to each his own Fury, but I love this movie. At least you are honest and did not pretend to like it. I respect that.

  • I dunno why people think I didn't like it, I liked parts of it as I said in my review but I had to point out the problems I felt it had so I wasn't completely blown away by this version and this is definitely not the version tarantino has as the final product.

  • Good review, pretty much sumed up exactly how i felt leaving the movie.

  • What would this movie look like if Jenna Jameson directed it!

  • I'm interested!

  • Hey check out my video response up top . it

    s HILARIOUS!!!

  • Thank you very much Fury!!!! I totally agree. This film dragged on & on. It got so boring at times that I actually dozed off at the Tarven scene. I didn't care about that french girl who worked at the thearter or Most of the scenes with Hitler. I wanted to see the "Basterds" raise hell. Instead, we only a few scenes with them. When an action scene actually happened, I didn't care for it. Brad Pitt was great in this movie, but there wasn't enough of it. My advise, pass this film & rent it.

  • I am hardly slamming this film, I'm not saying anything different than most people are and a Bronze is a decent rating, it's the people who cannot imagine anybody not absolutely nutting all over themselves for this film that are the real problem.

  • I wasn't slamming this film either. I was only saying, I expected more. I wanted 2 see the Basterds raising hell. Instead they only seemed like side story and the main focus was on that french Jewish girl & her plan.

  • I got hit early with Tarantino fan boys who think he's god. Check out the Video Response up top for that moron CumonAss, its hilarious. He just can't help himself the poor fool. this is not a masterpiece I think people are just so deprived of good films this summer , crackers will taste like filet mignon.

  • The same happened in my Transformers review, because I said the dialogue was bad and it was a mediocre film people jump to conclusions that I think the film is bad when in fact I gave it a 3 and a half out of 5.

  • yeah, a bronze is a totally watchable film just something I wouldn't see over and over and it has problems. Totally fitting.

  • Fury..I'm going to see this and do my review for my review show here pubic access in my city I'll let you know if I agree with ya or not love ya show bro.

  • I do agree with you, I really wanted to see more of the basterds being badass, but thats a small criticism, other than that I loved the film, and I do agree that the guy who played the hunter deserves an oscar nomination, he was just phenomenal

  • good review!

  • and also... Tarantino has to be watched more based on the characters attitudes, because the dialogue is always right on point. He writes the best dialogue.

Im probably the only one who liked Death Proof haha. I love the characters attitudes. So in that respect I might actually watch this movie again.

  • I actually got into the characters but I definitely see your perspective on it. It was an entertaining movie for me but nothing I could watch again because it really isnt a movie. Some rules of movie making shouldnt be broken, like solid protagonists and antagonists. We didnt quite get that here.

But what we did get was something that was entertaining I thought. Tarantino is an expert at unpredictability and thats what I got, at the edge of my seat.

  • yo im 11 my dad let me see district 9 wich was soooooo violent towards the end but he wont let me see this im trying to convince him to let me see it but he said maybe when it comes out on dvd

  • It's "waaaay" more violent than District 9. Not only is there more blood, but it's shown in more graphical detail. Also, there's a few scenes of sexuality which is definitely not suitable for an 11 year old.

  • not trying to make an arguement here but i also saw friday the 13th bruno orphan the hangover and im seeing halloween 2 on the 28th

  • man...at 11 you're seeing movies like this? then this movie should be no big deal , frankly I thought the violence everyone is talking about was rather tame.

  • i convinced my dad into letting me see it this weekend!!!

  • Good review Fury, but when are you gonna finish those questions? I know its very late, but I'd still like you to answer them.

  • which questions are these soggy?the QnA? I am trying to find time to do them but yes I will get back to doing the QnA again.

  • Thanks man, thats all I ask. Keep up the reviews

  • i don't know. i liked it. It has a lot of dialogue but the dialogue was awesome.... unlike Kill Bill Vol. 2. lol. well i thought it was a great movie and way better than anything i've seen this summer with all this cgi crap going on... but i haven't seen district 9 yet and i heard that movie was reeeeeaaallllyyyy good.

  • It's definitely sharper than Kill Bills dialogue was and way more compelling build ups but Tarantino needs structure to form a story, he's all over the place.

  • You have a point but thats what the "chapter #" titles where for i think. I think thats what saved this film from having a crappy flow for me. lol

  • best move of the year yet!

  • this wasent a very good review sadly

this film is special in a great way !!

  • I am very specific with what doesn't work in this film and I point out what does, I give people a realistic idea of what to expect while explaining how I felt the film was talky and heavily edited in a bad way while pointing out the problems Tarantino has as a Director and a story teller. Reviewing what a Bronze award is and your're special film is hardly getting slammed this version of Tarantinos movie is greatness surrounded by aggravating problems, whether people love the great parts so much

  • they choose to ignore the problems that's up to them but I'm here to tell people what to expect and I do it better than most critics because I clearly state what I'm thinking. Tarantino has problems as a director and story teller but is a great writer. For people who complained that Transformers 2 had no plot or character development I'm amazed at how much they are gushing over this film , a film that chooses style over substance and its only saving grace are great performances.

  • the thing that makes this film good is that it dosent have al to much action and the dialoge and acting are great, the bad things in it is what you said, the scenes when the caracters are talking is often long and boring but that dosent mather for me cus when the action comes in you get some great scenes, and the aggravating problems you mentioned is just some smal boring scenes that dosent make anny difrience! i cant wait to see district 9

  • oh jesus christ dude seriously grow a pair, If you're gonna go through life only surrounding yourself with the people who agree with you good luck ,

  • No, I am just saying after listening to your reviews for the past summer and I have pretty much disagreed with almost every review that you have done. I think the only thing that I have agreed with you on is District 9. It's not that you are an awful critic, as a matter of fact I think your a good critic. I like how you distinct things about stories and the flaws of them as well and talk about the good and bad things about them as well. It's just that you and I have different taste in movies.

  • I also agreed that Tarantino does drag out at times, like you you've said for example about Death Proof which I have to agree that has to be the worst Tarantino movie he has ever done. But still I like the dialogue in this movie compared to that film. I like the acting, story and the direction as well. Like I said, you and I just have different taste in movies. I don't know, I just think that giving this the bronze fury is an insult. But like I said you and I have different taste in films.

  • different taste in movies, you just said what fury confirmed. You only want to surround yourself with people who agree with you and you just had to announce you unsubscribing like a bitch. Real men don't announce shit...they just do.

  • Wow, this is the first not-so-bright review for the movie I've seen. Good job Fury, actual opinion, not just bandwagon

  • I'm only going to see this film to see Hitler go NIEN NIEN NIEN NIEN NIEN. good review 5/5

  • i love pulp fiction and absolutely hate deathproof which was in my opinion soooo boring, if that one is worse than deathproof i wont see it

  • his name is Robert Paulsen

  • So many people are afraid to admit that occasionally Quentin Tarantino's dialogue tends to drag in most of his films. Its not bad dialogue but like you said, its great in short bursts.

  • yeah doubt it

  • This was a kick ass movie and I enjoyed every minute off it, it's that good! In fact I could see this film getting better with repeat viewings.

I'm not sure what some people were expecting but Tarantino replaces "mindless action" with smart an well thought out dialog. In fact you could say the dialog acts as action sequences in and of themselves.

All in all it's one of his best films right up there with Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown and is a must see movie.

  • I guess if a movie was 2 hours of explosions and car chases you would think it was awsome.

  • I would have settled for the jew bear taking a crap in the woods. just ANYTHING besides long winded conversations. It was like listening in on a buncha teenage girls talk...oh..I saw that too in Death Proof!

  • You wanted more action? I thought the film was perfectly paced and to me, the dialogue was the action! It was awesome! Good review anyways.

  • I loved the film . But i admit the trailer made the film out to be a action film . But i loved the way it was paced

  • No ads? I sent you mine... by the way, good review..

  • Fight Club

  • Yah a lot of the scenes seemed to drag on a bit. I still enjoyed the film but was missing the action that the trailers promished.

  • Fight Club

  • Great review, Fury. I was pretty disappointed with this film. From the preview, I was expecting a balls to the wall action flick with a Tarantino spin. Instead, I got a bunch of witty talking with very little else going on. If really felt like a step backwards as a director for Tarantino.

  • Wow, you've shown me the error of my ways. Telling me my opinion was wrong was just what I needed - I've seen the light.......

yeah, my opinion is still that it was disappointing.

I'm not even gonna thumbs down your comment since two people beat me to it.

    Have a nice day.

  • you just copied what he said in the review lol

  • Yeah, and? What, I'm not allowed to agree with him?

  • you made it sound like your opinion though .

  • Maybe it sounds like my opinion because it IS my opinion. It's just a coincedence that he and I agree on some things.

  • And thats its worded in exactly the way way in which he worded it . Hey im not holding it against you i just noticed it is all :)

  • Love the film!

  • your my favorite critic

    i love you man

  • Great review :)

  • good review fury
