I am positive, that should he have lived longer, John Denver would be one of the biggest supporters of wild horses and of permanently banning horse slaughter and also of banning transport to slaughter. John, you died too soon.
How I just love all that John Denver ever sang; his beautiful voice and songs that truly carried so much meaning and made you think and feel. This is a lovely video both in the song and in seeing John himself singing it. There are so many wonderful videos & songs on YT dedicated to him and it is in no way surprising. He was very special and another of the "greats" lost to the World but will never be forgotten. His voice and songs are beautiful and timeless. K xx

i love all things John Denver, but this song in particular seems to just reach out and touch my soul. you can almost feel the hoof beats and see the eagles soaring high above
I would go as far to say that this is the best sounding live music video on you tube. i admit i am a fan of his but I have one word too discribe this performance and that is " tight "
this video looks like the places we used to camp and spend time with my Dad this song is my tribute to my wonderful Dad..even though his last wishes were not done like he deserves them to be..he is free..and is still with us forever..I love this song and video and Mr Denver too...
Sir John Denver's compositions are like anodyne&panacea for me it has completely absolved off all forms of physical&mental ailments& impediments&has given a new Philip to my sagging spirit,There in his compositions is my redemption, will have utmost veneration for him &would always address him as Sir John Denver Regards :)
I have never heard this song and I am a big fan. I thank you so much for letting me see this. My family is BIG on saving the wild horses that are left. BLM is rounding them up left and right and killing them by doing so or maiming them. The outcome if they survive the roundup is slaughter for human consumption overseas. Disgusting.
@preppygal190 It would not be so difficult if you had seen an eagle soaring or watched ponies run free over the plains. Think of the moment you have felt the freest in your life. Then try to imagine feeling that free EVERY moment of your life. When you can imagine that, then you will understand the song. I hope your spirit will soar like that of the eagle and the horse.
its so beautiful- a can see clearly all these places in nature when Denver describes them- hes such a great poet/singwriter,musician. It's so sad he and many others havejoined the wild and free spirits described in the song
"My spirit will never be broken nor caught, for the soul is a free-flying thing!" I fell in love with this song after he died; it's so relevant. When we see eagles and horses, he's flying again with them, in a race with the wind.
Pat Hawk. JD had only the best backup with this performance. (Renee Armand use to be his female backup in the 70's- she was my personal fave- but anyway Pat Hawk did a great job here.)
John Denver will always be one of my favorite singers. I didn't fully appreciate his music though until after he died. I wish I could have met him & gotten his autograph. That used to be one of my dreams-to meet him in person. RIP John.
im a 16 year old kid from philly but i just love JD my dad got me hooked as a kid and now as i watch and listen to him i relize that he just had so much fun with it i tihnk thats y i love him so much
John Denver was such a great performer, songwriter, and man......environmentalist, conservationist, pacifist. His songs have depth, emotion, insight, all the things that are missing in today's music. He speaks of the things that are important to all of us but today no one is listening. What happened to our society in the last 30 years? Where are good men like JD today, men with conscience and integrity? They certainly aren't in our government and CEO's and that's a big part of the problem!
This great man was on J. Carson years ago when I was a young boy. I will never forget he reaching back and grabbing his guitar and a mike came down over his head and he started to perform. It was incredible !
Great video and song you have put on here my friend.
I had a vision of eagles and horses High on a ridge in a race with the wind Going higher and higher, faster and faster On eagles and horses, I'm flying again Eagles inhabit the heavenly heights They know neither limit nor bound They're the guardian angels of darkness and light They see all and hear every sound My spirit will never be broken nor caught For the soul is a free flying thing Like an eagle that needs neither comfort nor thought to rise up on glorious wings
WHAT hb2npb???? Are you trying to say JD died on his daughter's birthday??? I'm sorry but JD did NOT die on either of his daughters' birthdays or Zak's either for that matter!! JD died on 10/12/97, Anna K's birthday is on Dec. 19th and Jesse B.'s is in the spring of '89, and Zak's is in May of '74 I believe. NONE of the kid's birthdays were on the day of the crash. I don't know WHERE you would have thought or seen that. Just to set it straight!!!

John Denver was an amazing singer... I remember; I was born in Montana and I always made my mom play this song in the car whereever we went... I suddenly remembered it today and played it, and I felt, for the first time in years, homesick from being away from the country (I'm in Alaska now)... his songs really do bring out the soul... I really wish I could have met him.
His songs were wonderful poems that rival even robert frost. think of how much better the world would be if we lived by all his words. A treasure gone but not lost.

Yes! he was. I am glad to see your response to my comments about this most beautiful of songs. It was amazing how Dragon lunch was able to put the movie of( Spirit Stallion of the Cimmaron) to this great song. Once again thank you for responding to my comments. JDs music touches us all-for we all miss him so.
this song has had a tremendous influence on my life. I recently changed my cyber name to "freespirit", and this song is most of the inspiration for that.
disregard the "bethsgirl", I'm definitely freespirit now.
and John Denver was taken from us much, much too soon. I wonder what kinds of songs he'd be writing now.
probably songs worshiping Mother Earth. he was clearly one of Her children.
Free spirit-I could'nt agree w/you more. His music should be taught in schools throughout the world. He is to me the greatest environmental & naturalist performer of all time. He talked about mother earth and written songs about her. He was always involved in environmental issues way before any performer of his day. He made it cool to be a tree hugger and was never ashamed or apologitic for it. JD will be miss! I miss him so. Go to Dragonlunch and see this song put to Spirit the Movie!
I am forever thankful to the Spaniards for bringing the horse to America. Millions of Americans, native and immigrants have ridden and adored them. And what a beautiful song to honor this most elegant and noble animal. Thank you JD for this wonderful reminder of this great animal who has help man throughout the centuries.
when I see the video in the background and then hear this song..it gives me a chill everytime!!! JD's spirit is everywhere and with us all...he's in the wind, sunshine, rain, stars, singing skies and dancing waters, the laughter of children and growing old..and IS dancing across the mountains on the moon....
this song has so much truth to it. not just emotional, but more so spiritual, and it lifts the spirit ,goddess bless the spirit of john we will always, love the gift of powerful music thankyou
Brotherdevil, I,m an old time Mechanic. If a ship I take care of goes down, it is my fault. There is no other decision. Even if it was a design flaw, I should have caught that. I didn't. Maybe I'm getting old. Oh, your query, it was a Burt Rutan design. =Stefan=
chengloki what do u mean, not been funny, but i dont understand y u feel u cud of stopped him flying we all have a destiny to follow. it was just his time, god gave us him for the beautiful music that calms us and makes us feel better and then he went on. i love john denvers stuff it helped me through the roughest patches of life and brought me out again.
Brother, I am a guy who always trusts his gut. That morning, my gut told me that ship should not fly! The parameters were right, and the preflight was right. But I didn't feel right. I had a U206W readdy to go, but he flew that damned plane. I refuse to work on Burt Rutan's ships anymore. =Stefan=
I will cherish John's music till I take my last breath. But, it was not God who took him from us. It was a poorly designed aircraft. We call that ship "Burt Rutan's Abortion". In plane words, (No pun intended) It was a lousy design. It should never have left the ground! Unfortunately, It was an X-craft. FAA could not stop it from "flying". I could not stop John from flying that damned ship. =Stefan=
Are we to understand that you were with him that day? If so how totally horrible it must have been. Can't image...it was bad enough hearing about it from a long distance.
Betty, I shook his hand before he took off. I should have decked him, instead. Hindsight is 20-20. But, I had a bad fealling about that ship. Hell of a way to be proven right. It is a lousy design. I now live in Hawai'i. We have a ship of that model flying here. I refuse to work on it. I failed John. I will not fail anyone else. Peoples' lives depend on what I do! And I really love working on airplanes. Take care, Betty. ==Stefan=
( hoping your post isn't some sad spoof ) JD needed to push himself, imo, to 'qualify' himself in the eyes of his father..........rather sad when you think he qualified himself to millions around the globe. No fault on anyone who was around him at that time.
Windsong, yes, this is a spoof. But the spoof is on me! I should NOT have let him fly that plane. The numbers were right. Never trust numbers. Trust your gut, always. Spoof? How I must laugh, today!! (When I don't feel guilt). Spoof? Right now I am not working. I can't get a job in aviation. My reputation precedes me. And it is the fault of that damned ship!! Burt Rutan!! I"m a DAMNED good tech! =Stefan=
I am positive, that should he have lived longer, John Denver would be one of the biggest supporters of wild horses and of permanently banning horse slaughter and also of banning transport to slaughter. John, you died too soon.

Horses are creatures that worship the earth
They gallop on feet of ivory
Constrained by the wonder of dying and birth
The horses still run, they are free
My body is merely the shell of my soul
but the flesh must be given it's due
Like a pony that carries it's rider back home
Like an old friend whose been tried and been true

I only recently heard about the suicide ending. It doesn't make sense. You don't go out and buy a new plane just to crash it!
No alcohol or drugs were found in his system at his autopsy.
It was a experimental plane, he wasn't that familiar with it. It was a pilot error, simple as that.
I refuse to believe suicide either.

and John Denver was taken from us much, much too soon. I wonder what kinds of songs he'd be writing now.
probably songs worshiping Mother Earth. he was clearly one of Her children.
his music should be taught in schools.

Thank you JD for this wonderful reminder of this great animal who has help man throughout the centuries.

who was the designer of the plane? had it been used anywhere else? i mean if others have had accidents in them it lies in the design faults.
i mean i respect u feel guilty but if other ones have crashed then no way can it be ur fault.

brotherdevil, I can no longer make any more comments on this subject.

Brotherdevil, I,m an old time Mechanic. If a ship I take care of goes down, it is my fault. There is no other decision. Even if it was a design flaw, I should have caught that. I didn't. Maybe I'm getting old. Oh, your query, it was a Burt Rutan design. =Stefan=

Thank you so much for this song. I heard it for the first time at the San Diego county fair, and I think this is the best I've ever heard.

=Stefan=

God took John from all of us much too early...but let us continue to live with and cherish the music he left us.

Can't image...it was bad enough hearing about it from a long distance.
bettywhitedog 4 years ago

No fault on anyone who was around him at that time.
windsong1962 4 years ago
Windsong, yes, this is a spoof. But the spoof is on me! I should NOT have let him fly that plane. The numbers were right. Never trust numbers. Trust your gut, always. Spoof? How I must laugh, today!! (When I don't feel guilt). Spoof? Right now I am not working. I can't get a job in aviation. My reputation precedes me. And it is the fault of that damned ship!! Burt Rutan!! I"m a DAMNED good tech! =Stefan=
