A very special performance of a special song. From love to despair and howling anguish, complete with a human heartbeat pounding in the chaos. Fucking genius.
Amazing, if there's one thing to complain about, it is that the original album version sounds a little boring after I listened to this incredible emotional outburst <3
Vivian Long and Lisa Hannigan such a force behind a lot of Damiens Music. They are the innosence in his tumble into the chaos of his music. So pure so steady.
so am i one of them people that are "judged" because i listen to all ranges of music! that is bullshit i listen to WTF i want to listen to if its Elvis Presley or Tupac do i have to follow one type of music ! no i don't! i listen to what makes me feel the right feeling i want at that time! stop the hating there is no need! peace love and understanding is what is needed!
So many great moments in this....!!! I loved vyviennes smile when it all kicks off, the cello itself in the song was amazing....!! The pedals, lisas voice... Lisas voice!!! And i loved especially the closing seconds when damien and tomo stare at eachother and wait for that final note....!! Sumd up into one word.... Wow!! :P
Ah, to have been there... what wouldn't I give to have been there. This is seriously one of me favorite performances ever. Beautiful and haunting, it really gave me chills.
I first saw it about a year ago, and evrytime I see/hear it I don't know who plays it... I mean, from about 6:00 the music starts to get all crazy xD but I don't know if there's another guitarist or someone.. I see Damien, playing the acoustic guitar, then Vyvienne with the cello, the bassist, the drummer, but is there someone who plays electric guitar???? for example, 8:50.. who plays that? or is just Damien with his guitar and some distorssion pedal?? It's been driving me crazy since I saw it
@natty71991 it's Damien himself! he has some kind of pedal which records and replay constantly whatever melody you make. you see he does it on the guitar and on his voice. there's a lot o videos on youtube of people who uses this effect. the most notable exemple is Thom Yorke on his (or Radiohead's) new song called "Give Up The Ghost". check it out on youtube =)
@natty71991 This is all Damien, he uses a Proco Rat distortion pedal and a Vox wah pedal, plus some Boss delays, and a Boss loop station. How he controls the acoustic from feeding back is a great question. But on all the videos that Damien plays with distortion it is all Damien...no electrics. You would be able to tell if there was an electric.
@sxj071 i imagine so.... Thanks for the... especificity. Really puts me out of my doubt. Knowing this makes me like him even more... thanks, really!!!
One of my favorite live performances of all time! I honestly think this is genius. When he vocally creates the sound of a heart beat is probably one of my favorite parts of this performance. Haunting brilliance, truly.
fuckin amazing... I can't stop listenening I like most of all these moments on 04:1405:0005:20 < when chelo bigens to play... it's fuckin amazing...I have nothing more to say, they have just done there best.... :X:X:X:X
if someday Aliens will land in front of my house and ask me what "music" is, I will show them this amazing masterpiece of performance. Then they will have no more questions to ask. THIS is IT!
I don't speak very well english, but there were people who didn' like it??? how is that possible??? this is one of the best performances i've seen. Also check Cold Water from this same concert... it's awesome too... I Love It!!!
I think anyone who's criticising this performance knows very little about Damien Rice. His performances are very much built around creschendo (I don't know how to spell that word and wouldn't be too bothered about using a spell checker). He's inspired by Glen Hansard from The Frames, similar style - lots of noise, and then the peace of the violin. Lovely stuff this one, I'm a big fan. All your nonsense about the mic is the fuss of a music fan not willing to experiment with sounds. Peace.
@JohnJoe25 Crescendo; cello. If you don't know how to spell crescendo and make the mistake of calling a cello a violin then I don't think you can comment on aspects of music.
@JohnJoe25 Well said. no reason to hate. the guy's very talented, and the beauty of this piece is that it takes its time, almost like a journey. there's something amazing to RE-listen and realize how soft it starts. Also, he's different, and in my opinion, i say good for him for experimenting! so yeah, i agree.
perfection per performance is not specifically th goal. its usually about the mood of the moment and the emotion of what is felt at that time. maybe he just felt it worked well for him at that time, or whoever was working his sound just fucked up. either way it produced something that some will absolutely love (me) and other will absolutely hate...and all those in-between. Either way, my personal an useless opinion is that I haven't heard something this awesome in a long time.
Do you not notice that when his vocals come in he's not screaming or anything and yet they still seem oddly digital? That is not him pushing the mic levels into the red.
And as for the quality of the music...He's putting intensity into his singing to raise the likewise intensity of his words. Which is a necessity for any live performance by any artist.
Wow, that's amazingly beautiful, then gut-wrenching. Love it. This (and the other BBC vids) is one of the best live shows I've seen. Seriously, it could have been chintzy, but it comes across as artistic.
This is actualy the best song on the album by far. Furthermore is probably one of the best and most emotional songs i've ever hear in my whole life, and that means a lot since i've listened to lots of music (from punk to jazz)
Just enjoy the great music this man makes... and don't be so uncool dude! btw I know Damien isn't anything like arrogant, he's such a cute shy guy ;-)
i really don't care if he's arrogant. He brings up so many emotions with all his songs, he's brilliant and he knows it, Im sure there's more to him than his "arrogance''. so, SO WHAT if he is. That shouldn't matter.
I saw him live in Chile back in junary and he was very arrogant. He complained the whole show about the people taking pictures or filming. He should just shut up and sing. That's what the audience wants him to
why does a guy speak bullshit about someone that's obviously talented if not genious?? Because they arent creative at all... and because they have a heart full of anger and envy.... im guessing..
