Owning an American pit bull terrier has nothing to do with being the fonze or superman it has to do finding a dog that fits your personality, you sound more like a cat person yourself. I could use a dog like that for hunting pigs. Are they proven hunters? I've got a long legged Jack Russel terriers that has a bark I can hear from over a miles away. When she's on a pig, she goes beserk!
@vardamin although they would make great hunters for pigs, their only down fall is that once they engage in the attack there is no stopping them. They have a never quit never give up attitude. However, there is a dog made specially bred for hunting pigs called the Argentine Dogo. You can see videos on them taking down huge pigs.

So many people try to make the argument that pitbulls are not more aggressive then other breeds of dogs, but honestly thats not true and you hurt the breed when you say that. Also sloppy breeders no longer take into account a dogs aggression when they choose to breed them. A bad bred dog is just bad news for the breeds rep.

It all depends on what the dogs were bred for. But i wouldn't consider a pitbull one completely since they do get along so well with people. My neighbor had one of these scary dogs. I used to throw chunks of ground beef with broken glass in it over the fence. It didn't even phase the dog. It would just inhale the beef with no problem. I was told this breed has no nerve endings in the mouth or neck. I am going to try anti-freeze this weekend. This dog just will not die. lol

So many people try to make the argument that pitbulls are not more aggressive then other breeds of dogs, but honestly thats not true and you hurt the breed when you say that. Pitbulls are a fighting breed, specifically bred to to be animal aggressive but NOT human aggressive. Its especially important to socialize your pit with other animals asap. Also sloppy breeders no longer take into account a dogs aggression when they choose to breed them. A bad bred dog is just bad news for the breeds rep.

@butlerfan123 I can't agree with no dogs are naturally aggressive though...There are plenty of breeds that strictly come with a 'not for inexperienced owners'. It all depends on what the dogs were bred for. But i wouldn't consider a pitbull one completely since they do get along so well with people. I wouldn't always blame idiot owners because it could just be uninformed owners. My pitbull though, has always had a very even temper. Although, I'm told she had a very strict upbringing.

@Koodoze Dog attacks...not specifically pitbull attacks. And statistically pitbulls may run high on bite averages compared to other dogs but they are also statistically much more popular a dog then their runner ups. In laymans terms just in case, Pitbulls are a very popular breed and therefor have a larger population compared to other 'aggressive' type dogs so it may appear they are more likely to bite but in actuality there are just more them so theres more of an opportunity.

My neighbor had one of these scary dogs. I used to throw chunks of ground beef with broken glass in it over the fence. It didn't even phase the dog. It would just inhale the beef with no problem. I was told this breed has no nerve endings in the mouth or neck. I am going to try anti-freeze this weekend. This dog just will not die. lol
