I think of my second mom louise and cry when I hear this. She died suddenly. And her daughter cremated her because she wanted to save that insurance money. Psychotic.
judy garland actually sang this song on her show with oh maybe donald o connor.... this song reminds me of judy even if it wasnt for her but anyways i love this song as liza sings it
one of my all time favorite Liza performances -- but it has nothing to do with Judy as Liza has said many times; first of all, she was "Momma," not Mammy LOL and Judy probably never stepped in Alabamy or Alabama for that matter :) j/K Alabama ppl -- if anything, it's a "take" on the Al Jolson style of yore ... Judy never sang it (that I know of at least); this and "Shine On Harvest Moon" from the HBO New Orleans special are my favorite performances on film of the greatest live performer ever
so sad, so sad. all of us out there wanting her mom and she did it, she did it. she did her mom...for us.....it really sucks ..but Liza does it well, what a talent!!!
she looks just like her and performs with pizazz, damn she is as good as her mammy

@JJJZANESVILLE2 Yet she always managed to be herself, and yeah she was undeniably Judy's daughter, but she also is herself. I feel like Liza is the one who finally conquered the family depression.
Liza was at her peak in 1972 and she could do no wrong -- winning an Oscar, an Emmy and a special Tony for her work that year. The sustained applause at the end of the number, of course, was for both her and Judy Garland whose spirit hung over the proceedings so nicely during this number. Judy had only been gone 3 years and now, Liza's star was burning bright and the audience saw the torch being passed and responded in kind.

@gregstewart1234 Liza has always been Judy's ghost - at first unavoidably - but later as her career faltered she milked it relentlessly - to the point that in the end she never shuts up about her mother even tho no-one under 50 remembers who Judy Garland was Very sad
Liza always gives 110% to her performances. I nearly cried at the end. Quite Touching. Especially since I treat my mother like a queen. Anything for my 'mammy.'
I saw Liza live in concert a few weeks ago when she was in Perth on her Australian Tour and she performed this song and she did it really well. I loved her in her prime when she was younger but even though he voice is a little deeper now and she can't hold a note as long as she used to be able to she is, and always will be, a shining star and she even jokes about not being able to get down on one knee anymore lol. She's a class act :).
i'm breathless--she's the consummate performer! Liza in her prime was tops; she still can sell the hell out of a song but back then she had a reservoir of energy & stamina.
I love this performance! They play it alot on Showtime. If you like this, watch Kristen Chenowith sing Taylor the latte boy. That will really make you smile:)
wish was coming with you! i saw her in manchester 2 days ago and she was OUTSTANDING and on TOP of her game JUST like the 'old days'!!! so have an AWSEOME time! xx
I saw her last October and she was just Fabulous, I must say my freind and me were the youngest people that went lol i'm 19 and we were so proud to be there :D

Liza has a habit of that! ;-) Have you heard the album to "Liza's at The Palace" Its amazing!
She does this song on it and Billy Stritch is on piano. That combo of two extraordinary talents is beyond insane talent

But, I like the way Liza's voice sounds and the way that her emotions while she's singing has carried her so far. My favorite.
