They're easier to do with a bit more momentum. Clearly stated novice wheelies. If you start at a lower speed you've more chance of falling off from over accelerating, Takes a bit of experience.
@CameronWillison How it was a whole new thing for him, to do it at a higher speed implied more danger because if he had overdone it on the gas it would probably fliped the bike and higher speed = bigger damages and nastier wounds. In my opinion he did it the right way to preserve himself and the bike. And also its the way to progressively gain confidence and knowledge of the bike and its behaviour and balance.
1st bike? You're mad. (maybe in a good way) Having riden for 8 years now, doing trackdays and racing for 5, I rode one of these recently and WAS BLOWN AWAY. The last time I laughed so hard was power wheeling a ZX-10 in 3rd.
Anyway, I wouldn't recommend it as a 1st bike, but good luck to you, just don't be suprised when it bites you back.
Thank for the vid thou and good luck finding a more exciting ride when its trade-in time, maybe a Desmosedici???
yeah, well i'm already yawn-ing on it..:D I want mooore.. i was thinking of waiting for the dorsoduro 1200, cause the sxv is just not reliable, and the dealers don't know sh*t how to repair it properly. sad...
your supposed to redline supermoto bikes, thats how you get the most power out of them, i have one and its very un reliable, i brought it to several dealers to be repaired and no one knows how to fix it,maybe if you did some research on the bike then you would know all the problems it has,
I just don't get why everybodys says that the SXV550 ist such a powerfull bike. I rode it a few days ago and was really looking forward to it since everybody on the net is curious about it. The retailer told me that it should have about 70hp and I almost fell asleep on it. Honestly the sound and handling is really great but the power isn't. Hardly to powerwheel in 2nd with a topspeed of maybe 145 in 6th. Maybe mine was just crappy but for the price and reliability its definately not enough.
Just be careful on high speed straights, cause this is not the type of bike you wanna be chasing top speeds with (highly unstable - plus it's not its purpose)
I have cbr600rr and i try to ride it as much as supermoto as possible hehehe (so who am i to judge right?)
lol, RIGHT! :P well i think it's stable enough doing 190 km/h :D, and the purpose of a bike it's to use it to its limit in every possible way. so she rides just fine in high speeds. absolutely no probs ;)
To get one of these for your first bike is so brave it's crazy! still it will probably shape you into some kind of amazing rider, in a way it is the perfect first bike if you have a heep of natural talent, it is all feel and light as a sword. You are going to find almost all other bikes as boring as hell.
that's exactly how i feel :)) , really .. after half year riding it i tested other bikes a drz and ktm 600-ish forgot exactly... when i finished i was laughing so hard, they were ridiculous, and i crashed only once while racing 2 R1s , it began to wobble due to crappy road
I own an sxv550 and an 07 gsxr1000. The gsxr smokes the aprilia but it still runs a 12 sec quarter. And the aprilia gets alot more attention.

Really? What trouble have you had with it? I was thinking of gettin one. I know they need service at 60hours-what does that require?
Any other tips?
Those Triumph Speed Triples (1050cc triple)look pretty good for this sort of "spirited" riding. ;)

by the way is that the stock pipe or have you got something else fitted?

they dont know how to fix it?
Maybe if you weren't redlining it and knew how to switch gears it wouldnt have to be repaired dumbass.
