Each time I listen to this, I can't help but focus on Steve Howe's elegic guitar playing, which is not only perfectly done technically. There's so much emphasis and a deep feeling, that it keeps me walking over to my guitar everytime and practicing a bit. It's pure inspiration. Would like to know, which equipment Steve's using here along with his Gibson, which effects and amps. Anyone?
This is surely one of the most beautiful rock songs of all time.A truly amazing piece of musicianship from in my opinion the best Yes album-Going For The One. Utterly brilliant!
I never thought that Steve would be able to reproduce the guitar part of the album version so completely and accurately as he does here. It's for sure one of the most difficult guitar sequences, and Steve does it brilliantly!
Steve Howe - One of our (UK) greatest guitar players - next to Roland Orzabal (Tears for Fears) and Brian May (Queen). Steve even featured/guested on Queens Innuendo album. Plus he still plays with his other band Asia.
Apart from the guitar playing, John Anderson can still hold a tune at "half a century plus some"....... Keep up the fab work!
i bought the album this came off, Going For The One, age eleven in 1977. This live version is so close to the studio recording. The guitar is almost perfect. Love it, still
...Help me share my Yes experiences, because:I had the tremendous, great fortune to spend some time with RW after a show in Bloomington,Ind. in the 80's(now I have to go research exactly when!)I will say here:He was as nice and down to earth as anybody I have ever met in life!In fact I often say to myself:If RW can be that nice, this person I currently am dealing with had better not think of themselves as any kind of star at all-and I mean regular everyday people! One of the most cherished times...
Beauty is in the eye or ear of the beholder;I will say for the 3rd time about 'Turn':In my opinion, absolutely one of the most exquisite, gorgeous pieces of art in any medium that will ever be created by any human or group of humans in GOD'S Wondrous universe! When I saw the GFTO tour at MSG,NYC in '77,we were terrifically excited about the return of Rick Wakeman to the line up!WHAT A SHOW!And-THEY GOT BETTER THE NEXT 2 TOURS!!My tech skills low-YT the most user friendly site for info exchange 4 me
In my opinion, this song is Yes's best kept secret. When I listen to it, I get goosebumps. It's truly beautiful. Too bad it didn't get the exposure that it deserved back in the day or even now. What's up people? I know that anyone that hears it has to feel the emotion. Who's with me?
Yes, I have just dug out my album and played it, and it does the same for me, they had a magical quality. Best concert ever when they had a central stage at Wembley.
My dad (rest in peace daddy) told me they are simply THE GREATEST show he's EVER seen. Better than Pink Floyd who he truely loves. But sesing them have so many instrumetns such as 11 different guitars, each tuned for different guitars. He said every show (Except the last as they became commerical) was truely better and better.
I love Yes thanks to my dad. This is proof why I too have become a YES fan.
Yes ,and the members are very highly evolved human beings that are way ahead of their time, and I know that they are as well familiar with the fact that they are initiates as well of the ancient wisdom.
yup they go into a major key to evoke the positive tuen the story takes one of the best songs ever by anybody the album version with the church organ at Vevey is best . .
Steve is the main reason i started playing guitar in 1975. He is one of the most unique voices that came out of Prog rock in the 20th century. His modal playing and compositions are so inspiring. And Jons words are so etheric. I am a true die hard yes fan. The magic, beauty and wonder that their music poses is quite simply unequaled. We touched, we danced, we both knew the story.
GFTO might Rick's finest Yes work. Sadly he always drives me batty with his loose interpretations of his own stuff live. I keep waiting for brilliant little moments and he kinda "wings it".
if u like this u should check out opeth (if u can handle black metal bits) they take a progressive approach and most of the music is very melodic. also try dream theatre and mastodon
What makes me sadi is that these were true Yes, back in '90something, and we'll never hear or see them this way any longer... Rick there on keyboards and Jon there wonderfully singing.
All I can say ChordCluster is Wow. Sounds like a stellar evening. Hope I can experience something like this also. I truly love and appreciate Jon and Chris and Steve.
Not just a beautiful song but probably the most beautiful song ever written. And le'ts think about it. From a rock group tthat has No 1). The best vocalist, No.2). The best bassist No.3). The best guitarist (Steve Howe) No.4). The best drummer (both Alan White and Bill Bruford) and of course No.5). The legendary Rick Wakeman.
Yes at the top of their game. Wonderful melody, masterfully performed. Now the group has two youngsters in it, but they are keeping Yes music alive. It was so advanced, only a small percent of people "got" it. It will be played in Yes concerts in the 23rd century. It is that good. Masters of our Age.
This is a masterpiece. I have no other words to describe my favorite Yes song. When I first heard it I was 13, and the beauty of it shocked me to the point that I became instantly a progressive rock fan: Yes, Genesis, PFM, Pink Floyd and Queen, and slowly bought me all of their records!
I can't get over how great a song this is. Every member contributes exactly what this song requires...to make it such a classic. Mesmerizing creativity and execution by Steve Howe on this. Yes' best song.

This has to be one of their best songs--Jon's abandoned his elliptical prose for a straight uplifiting story. Even the video is conservative--nothing psychedelic.
this song is so lyric so romantic i think if they would have sang it in old english it had had a better reception , yes and genesis for me were absolutelly wonderfull

This is my favourite Yes song ever. I remember the first time I played Parallel Lines and heard this awesome track back in about 1978. I have seen them live twice since but I have never heard them play this song live. This is pure musical craftmanship at it's best!

In my eyes prophetic
I first heard this so many years ago
It made me think at that time a message was being sent that a great event would happen at the turn of the century
A man standing naked in front of skyscrapers (look similar to the twin towers)
At the turn of the century two great buildings were felled, many were lost and our nation was deeply wounded
Now a new leader arises to say "yes we can"
Rohans clay is transformed into new life

Yes, Annie and Steve did a wonderful version of "Turn of the Century" on a cd named "Tales From Yesterday", a Yes tribute cd. It is really just the lyrical part of the song minus the great instrumental interaction in the middle of the Yes version (I do love the Yes version studio and live). Give a listen if you get a chance, and let me know if you like it. Maybe in the near future you will find a Jack and Brenda version here on You Tube. We are trying... :-)

Of all Yes songs, this is probably my favorite. Some of the most beautiful guitar playing Steve Howe ever did.

This is my favourite Yes song ever. I remember the first time I played Parallel Lines and heard this awesome track back in about 1978. I have seen them live twice since but I have never heard them play this song live. This is pure musical craftmanship at it's best!

it's the the most inchanted dreaming composition for voice and classic guitar I've heard from Yes.
